Hello to everyone, I have just recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, well what a shock that was, and all i said to the consultant was *what is that* like I guess a lot of other people say when diagnosed with fibro. Well I have posted on here in the hope that maybe just maybe someone on here has any ideas how to ease the continuous pain that I am in. Sorry to be so :( on my first posting on here and wishing you all well :fingerscrossed:

What did your consultant recommend for you? I was diagnosed in August, initially on diazepam and codeine. Registrar at hospital wanted me to stop them because they made me sleep all the time..suggested ibuprofen and paracetamol..they did nothing. Spoke to a specialist physio.

Amitryptylline low dose to help sleep (as fm patients do not get into level 4 sleep therefore it is unrefreshing).

Nefopam as analgesic (non opiod so no tiredness/drowsiness with it)

Gabapentin which is an antiepileptic but my understanding is it tries to correct the mixed messages from your nervous system which is telling you that you are in pain when you may not be.

My pain was much better and depending where you are living , physio's run programmes for those with chronic pain so it may be worth visiting your Gp for a chat.

i started off on 10mg of ami but had to go to 20mg but i know someone who only takes 5mg, different for different people. You could ask your doc about seeing a specialist physio maybe?

:welcome: to the forum jenny

I'm just up the road from you in North Nottinghamshire and my parents live on the Lincs coast, so it's become a bit of a regular place for us recently 8) 8)

There is a heck of a lot to take in and get used to when you're told you have FM, it takes a bit of time but with a bit of trial and error you can get a good grip on it.

Meds wise there are various things to try in different combinations. This linky gives you some info about some of them as well as other info about the condition. To find out what might be suitable for you, you'll need to see your GP to discuss the various possibilities.

Your GP should also be able to give you an idea of what may be available in your area that could help you. Different places run things in different ways, but there could be pain clinics, hydrotherapy, physiotherapy etc that you could try. And for some people, counselling can help with coming to terms with FM being a part of life as well.

There's a load of info and advice on here, and you can always ask about anything you want to know about, can't promise it will be a sensible one, but we will try and help you find some answers

Only just seen this. Also in Lincs, by the Cambs and Norfolk border but originally from Boston!

I'm hoping to be referred to a Specialist Fibro Clinic soon (if there is one in Lincs, or one in Norfolk/Cambs that will treat me, if not I think my Rheumy will refer me to one in London if poss). If there is anything like that nearby I'll post about it so you know if it might help :D

Hi
my names Kerry and I am new to this site, I was diagnosed with FM a month ago but had ongoing problems for past 2 years after a neck injury at work.
Since being diagnosed i'm finding it particularly difficult to find anyone that understands what we all go through everyday! I feel like i'm boring them or they don't believe me, or their just not interested. It's so frustrating especially as the pain does'nt feel like it's being managed. I am awaiting physio and hydropool treatment.
Unfortunetly I've been disappointed with the pain team in the skegness/boston area. After pleading with my Gp I'm visitngs a pain management dr on 02/12/11 which I realise i'm lucky to see but when i keep having so many bad days its hard to see that ever coming. I'm sorry to start my message on here this way as I would like to think that i'm a very chilled 28year old who likes a laugh.
I wanted to say hello to you all as you are all in the lincolnshire area and I was hoping we could discuss treatments etc or just have someone to talk to who understands when i'm in agony and can sympathise.

looking forward to speaking to you all. xx
