I'm new Here!!!

Postby sharyboo » Fri Dec 02, 2011 7:22 pm

Hello Everyone :) My name is Sharyn and im from Sunny Lancashire!!

I only recently found your site when diagnosed with Fibro only a few weeks ago. I have been given Amitryptaline and Duloxetine for the pain but at the moment its just knocking me out and ive been signed off work until my body adjusts. Im hoping these will help as i feel like my life is being turned upside down with the pain. Im 41 Years old and my hubby is 55 and he's running around after me, its soo not fair and the family dont really understand. They try, but when your complaining about pain in your legs one minuit and then in your shoulders 2 hours later, its hard to not sound like your just moaning in general and they must be sick and fed up of hearing about it. I'm quite low at the moment and dont like being at home. I am sleeping more than ever and i am just praying with everything i have that i can find something that stops the random pains. Sorry for moaning, i am just glad i have found this forum and i can maybe get some tips from people who feel the same and that understand me. Nice to be here. Hugs to you all!!! :-D

:welcome: to the forum and the    world of FM sharyn   Hopefully you'll have a good time with us

There is a lot of info and advice on here, so hopefully you'll find some useful tips and suggestions that make a difference for you :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed:

How you're feeling at the moment, is quite typical after you've been told you have FM. It seems to be the enormity and realisation of what it is and how it turns everything that you know upside down and inside out

How long have you been taking the amis and duloxetine?? Only asking as meds can take from a few weeks to a number of months to properly get into your system and start to make a difference, so what you're experiencing at the moment with the sleeping could be a result of that.

Anything you want to know, just ask and we'll see how we can help you with it

Hiya Fluffy, Ive only been on the ami for 3 weeks and the other one i was prescribed just today. so ye, i guess i have to wait for them to get in my system and for me to get used to them. That is why ive been signed off work for the next couple of weeks, so that by the time i go back after the xmas holidays, which will be in 4 weeks time, i should be feeling better, fingers crossed!!! Yes i will have a look round the site tomorrow when ive more time and see what others have to say. Thankyou Fluffy xxx

Hi there new myself but welcome all the same :)
I have tried both of those medications, personally i found both amitriptyline and the duloxetine to help very little. Also they did both individually cause a lot of drowsiness but that is naturally one of the most common side effects.
I thoroughly understand that all people react differently so give it a week and more perhaps if you feel you can continue and perhaps it will help as you need it to.
I'm sure you know this, but of course if your side effects do get worse or unbearable its probably easier to stop taking them and see your doctor :)

Wish you well

Hi there Sharyn from Lancashire. Sorry you received this awful news recently. I also was diagnosed a few weeks ago. I was prescribed 10mg of Amitryptiline but unfortunately I have had repetitive nightmares and I wake up feeling anxious and ill. I have heard some people say that it knocks them out but it does not affect me that way. I have stopped taking them until I can get back to doctors because I do not want another health problem, ( too many already). I just keep thinking "use it or lose it" and keep on the best I can but I do agree with you, one of the hardest things to deal with is that so you do not appear always moaning, people forget you've got it and you feel as if your all alone with your pain. You are not of course, we are all with you. Come on here and moan, we can take it. Hope the pills work in end though. Love Jean in North Notts

Hey Sharyn,

life is pretty daunting when you are only getting used to life with FM. Medication-wise its a tough journey and you will have to try all sorts before you might find something that actually works for you. I couldn't tolerate Amitryptiline either, I just couldn't handle the nightmares and they didn't help relax at all! I have tried other tablets such as Lyrica or Gabapentin which might actually help much better. You should ask to be referred to your local pain clinic. I have been to the clinic @ Royal Preston Hospital and they are really very good. They are specialised in pain management and they are knowledgeable in everything concerning pain. I found it very helpful to speak to health care professionals who don't treat you like its all in your head...things will get easier :-) :santchimney1:
Sincerely,

Pat Moss
