New and as yet undiagnosed

Postby Betfred101 » Sat Dec 03, 2011 12:03 am

Hi there everyone, im new to this site but recently been reading more and more on this site.
I am currently under investigation with the Rheumatology consultant and now impatiently waiting for a diagnosis.
Had the usual tests MRI, Xrays, Blood tests (surprised i have any left) EMG and so on. Next appointment is in febuary which seems a long wait.
Recently i have been to the docs at least once a week for nearly 2 months now trying to get the medication suitable for me. I have so far tried amitryptiline, gabapentin, nefopam, diclofenac, codiene and mirtazapine mostly with no help or nasty side effects.
Currently taking tramadol max of 4 X 50mg though im hardly taking any at the moment as it does nothing to help me. I'm also trying out pregabalin at 50mg X 3 a day which seems to be making a good difference but still need some extra pain relief :(
I am personally convinced i have fibromyalgia with possible Arthritus as i have the perfect symptoms for the former and latter unfortunately.
I know a few friends who suffer from fibromyalgia who both originally suggested i visit the doctors as i am generally stubborn about docs, hospitals.

So fingers crossed for both a diagnosis and help for the pain etc :)

Hi there thanks for the welcome :)
Just a little update hope its ok to put here.
Went to the docs yesterday after being put on pregabalin (lyrica) 150mg in 3X 50mg doses with the tramadol max of 8 x 50mg a day.
Not getting any relief from the tramadol it sort of fuzzes me out a short while after first taking them then nothing. The pregabalin were meant to help with pain relief and should have been better than the Gabapentin i previously tried but had very bad dreams, sweats odd feelings etc from.
Sadly the pregab seemed about the seem and otherwise were like taking smarties so my GP asked me what i thought. Which i found rather surprising so i mentioned a friend of mine trying some sort of patches for her FM.
She didnt even bat an eyelid, odd considering she wasnt too keen at my last appointment to prescribe anything stronger than the trams. which is of course understandable however she immediately prescribed me with BuTrans 5mg for 5 mcg/hour dosage.
So far so good :) its brilliant and i havent even been on them for 2 days yet!

Hi D
Glad the BuTrans patches are working for you, i used to be on them a few yrs back, they are good but i found your body does become used to the dose quickly and found i had to keep increasing the dose, i ended up wearing 2 patches at a time.
I had to stop them due to my skin reacting against the plaster.
:goodluck1: on them.

Hi there just another update for anyone still keeping track. Looks like the forums are a little quiet lately :(
Anyways i have just been to my rheumy yesterday and have been told i have Fibro. Im still kind of in denial even though i have waited a long while for this diagnosis.
I seem to need it written on paper first before i can accept and understand. Sounds wierd but thats how my mind seems to work :S
Now im just waiting to get the letters sorted out between consultant and doctor and other appointments. Pain specialist, Neurology etc yet to come god i thought it would be easier but more stuff to do!
Hope everyone else is doing well :)
