New and Diagnosed Today

Postby Coley2685 » Tue Jan 10, 2012 11:21 am

Hi there, Im new here

For many years ive been suffering with a burning stinging sensation in my shoulders and neck, I always assumed it was posture. Then 10 months ago I had my 3rd and final addition to the family, since he arrived my life has been torture. No longer can i carry a bag of shopping, push a pram, carry my children for longer than a few minutes etc the list goes on, I assumed maybe a knock on effect of the C section they say you have bad back some time after. This has just been there constantly so a few months ago at my wits end i googled my symptoms and was shocked to read that i could indeed be a fibro sufferer so i mentioned it to my GP and she stated until i was tested for everything else and ruled out for other conditions she could not put a diagnosis on Fibro so far ive had physio which did sweet FA, blood tests for RA and an xray. My first GP was baffled by my pain and the 1 i have now spends most her time concentrating on my depression which is fabby but the depression is mostly fueled by the pain i am in day in day out. I gave up work as did my partner recently as i cant look after 3 young children when in this amount of pain. So after 4 nights of practically no sleep i have called my surgery and requested i see a doc today. I will be seeing a old school GP later on today and push for some help. Im currently on more pain killers than i care to mention none of which relieve my pain. Any advice on what i could say/do to get this doc to give me something for my pain and to finally get some kind of diagnosis. Admittedly i am here on false pretences atm with no diagnosis I am not a sufferer of Fibro but 99% of my symptoms point to Fibromyalgia.
Thanks in advance and once again HELLO :) (Sorry if my post is in the wrong place)

:welcome: coley

Sorry to hear about your problems. :goodluck1: at your docs, i hope you get some answers soon.
It can take a while to get a DX of fibro as they have to rule so many other illnesses out first, fibro does not show up in any tests so it tends to be last on the list.

Here is a link that might help, its some of the meds used to treat fibro.

Hi,

I'd request a referal to a rheumatologist in your case, they are supposed to be the specialist's in the field as far as I'm aware. Good luck.xxx

I agree with DebT, you need to state that you see a rheumotologist. to get a correct diagnosis. Take care.x :-D

Hi Coley and :welcome: to the forum, getting a diagnosis of FM can take an awfully long time as the symptoms can mimic so many other symptoms as Shaz has said asking to see a rhuematologist may help speed things up as the others have said but I think you may have a bit of a way to go yet :fingerscrossed: the doc you are going to see will be able to help

:welcome: to the forum coley

There isn't much more I can add to what has already been said. Hopefully when you see your GP it will be the start of you finding out what is the cause of your problems :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed:

Thank you all, Well i have been to see the GP and he went through it all with me and diagnosed me as being fibromyalgia... Have to say it is a huge relief having a name to my pain and being able to say i have Fibro rather than saying i have a bad back... So if you'll have me i think i will stay. Shame that i had to come to this cant say i enjoy life in pain but...... at least i know i am not alone since finding you all here xxx :-D

Diagnosed Today

Postby Coley2685 » Tue Jan 10, 2012 7:36 pm

I did post earlier but hadnt had a diagnosis and was looking for advice regarding getting a diagnosis... having spoke to a GP he has said that it is FM so I can now introduce myself....

So im Nicole or Coley as i often go by (Hence the name lol) Im 26 (Feel 86) Mum of 3 (feels like 33) live with my partner Gary (Cant get rid of him for love nor money Ive tried believe me) Ive suffered a strange burning pain in my lower neck and shoulers for a fair few years but have always put it down to poor posture so just avoided anything that caused the pain to worsen (Wrapping presents and hoovering were the worst) Then 10 months ago I had my 3rd and most definately final c section and produced a bouncing baby boy (and boy did he bounce at a healthy 9lb) Since his arrival the pain worsened, my IBS got worse, My acne got worse, I began sweating more, Depression kicked in big time, My insomnia was crazy, restless legs had me climbing the walls and my periods became this constant torrent of pain and worry. Id been to every doc i could and asked for help had every pain killer they could give all the anti inflammatorys rubs, sprays, herbal remedys etc. Had some tests which all came back fine so today after a 2.30 wake up and being very much pained and upset i decided to call my emergency doc, popped by to see him this afternoon and had a chat, and now here I am... Boring a group of strangers with my life story :-D

So thats me and my journey on the Fibro Train.... Wondering Do you mind if i can begin a new chapter in my journey with you guys here at UKFibro????? :?:
Thanks for reading and look forward to maybe getting to know you guys :)

You're more than welcome on the train coley, and you can join in with the rest of us with the new and different chapters in our lives. It will be a bit bumpy at times, so make sure you wear your seatbelt :nono: :nono: If there's anything you want to know about, just ask and we'll see what sort of answer we can rustle up for you.

I'll attempt to merge this topic with the one from earlier on, so everything is all together in one place

Hi and welcome ! i have only been on here a few weeks so am fairly new too.I find my symptoms worsened during pregnancies (i have 4 kids 21,20, 18 & 11 )especially the restless legs, i had to see a specialist with my last pregnancy as it was sooo bad.Although i didn't realise i had fibro then.My back and pelvis/hips were very painful too and i had to wear a tight band after i gave birth.I still get pain in my pelvis and tops of legs at certain times of the month. For years i was told its just hormonal.Hopefully your symptoms will improve somewhat when you are on the correct meds.I have suffered bouts of depression too like you.I stumbled upon fibro while looking for something that fit all the odd symptoms i was having as well as ibs type symptoms.I was worried it might be chrons as my mum had it which is why i went to the Drs and had loads of tests all negative.I have lots of lumps which cause me pain and it was seeing that mentioned on one site about fibro that clinched it for me and it was me who asked the GP if it could be that. She did the tender spot thingy and i was amazed at how many i had all symetrical on both sides.Although even now i still ask myself is it really fibro ? I am on amytryptaline at the moment and have noticed an improvement in symptoms, some of the little things are not as noticable now like the shooting pains and burning sensations.I hope you will get some relief and congrats on the new arrival :-)
