Hello Everyone

Postby Zaralaska » Fri Aug 03, 2012 10:28 pm

:-D I just wanted to say hello to everyone and tell you a little about myself

I was diagnosed with CFS in 1996 and like many others on here I had no choice but to leave a very good job :( In 2008 I was diagnosed with FM, though I believe with both conditions I had them for many years before I was diagnosed. I have received Incapacity Benefit since 1997. About 2 weeks ago I received the dreaded brown envelope containing the ESA form. The thought of completing it filled me with dread  Where do I go for help and advice specifically for my conditions :?: I trawled the internet until I came across a website and forum that was full of information regarding all aspects of CFS/FM :-D But, most importantly for me were the positive attitudes, friendliness and helpfulness shown by the members of the forum which shone out though my computer screen....of course, the website I came across was this one. :welldone: You have given me the confidence I needed to fill out this :swear1: form and I am now half way through filling it out. If I am unsure about anything I come straight onto here and after a bit of searching I always find the help I need. I would like to say 'Thank you' to everyone and give you all a great big :grouphug: Hopefully, one day I'll be ale to help someone else :fingerscrossed:

Caron who has 6 of these :cat1:

:welcome: to the forum Caron :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing:

It's lovely to hear you've already found the info and stuff we have on here so wonderfully helpful

Like you, I now have the matching pair, FM came first over 12 years ago, altho I wasn't dx'd until 4 years after it forced me to be part of the gang    The CFS/ME option has only officially arrived this year, altho like it's FM partner, it has been lurking around for much longer :cup1: :cup1: :cup1:

We each do our best to keep a positive and friendly air to the forum, altho sometimes those black clouds do come rolling in and catch us off guard. We manage to find our way thru them tho, then go back to our usual       states, depending on what the day needs :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing:

Lots of us are owned by various animals, I'm not a :cat2: :cat1: lady tho, I leave that to my next door neighbour as she loves them :blowkiss: :blowkiss: I'm owned by the least~like~a~springie springie girlie you can find, and 3 chookabos :chicken-dance: :chicken-dance: :chicken-dance:

Just ask if there's anything you want to know about, it doesn't usually take long for someone to reply :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing:

Welcome to Zara and all the newbies. I can hardly believe that I read somewhere here that there are 9.000 members already. Just shows how many of us are suffering with Fibro, and much else besides.

I will not say how long I have been ill, as it would not be an encouragement to others, but a long time.

Before I forget, someone mentioned about taking a beta-blocker. My advice would be no way! Its a killer! I saw a private specialist back in 1980 and he put me on a beta-blocker, and I was left on it for 7 years, getting worse and worse, until I finally collapsed and did so in the doctor's surgery, and the locum said "STOP IT IMMEDIATELY - I've seen this happen before." So I did, and ended up confined to bed for THREE years, and from them on needed a wheelchair!

My advice is, do not take drugs, but try and find some alternative herbal products. Its also best to try topical creams, such as Freeze-gel and Biofreeze, if you can tolerate the Menthol.

Its good to have a website like this, to try and help one another, and to sympathise.

Hi Penfriend
just like to say that everybody reacts differently to medications, sorry to hear that beta-blockers did not agree with you but it does not mean that they will have the same reaction as you had.
There are hundreds of other people on these meds so its wrong of you to advice people not to take them as they are a killer :yikes:

I have been on Beta-blockers a couple of times and have been ok on them.
Sorry you ended up in a wheelchair :hugs:

Sorry to hear how things have turned out for you penfriend, but as Shaz has said, we all react very differently to things, and the only way someone will know if a med/treatment could help them is to try it.

I've been on beta~blockers at different times and have always found them OK. In fact, were I not on beta~blockers at the moment, coupled with nefopam, I would be in agony virtually daily due to migraines. Altho far from perfect, with this particular combo I have found that I can now have about half a week migraine~free.

Were I to follow your suggestion and use herbal products, I would probably end up in hospital as I have such extreme reactions to anything herbally/supplementy.

And from when you were initially given beta~blockers there may well have been changes and improvements to them, manufacturing processes etc that help minimise such effects as you suffered.
