wanted to say hi and maybe get advice

Postby justme* » Mon Oct 01, 2012 12:46 pm

firstly hi to you all :-D

im a 40 year old married mum of 5 who apart from pcos had no real health problems until a year or two ago

i was diagnosed with fibro about 3 months ago after being quite poorly for over 18 months,it started with calcific tendonitus in my shoulder and within a short time a flue virus and gallbladder liver problems, lung problems.

now 18 months later the only thing that now can be found is a have a crp of roughly 20 for the last year other then that.....

so after roughly 2 mins with a specialist he decides i have fibro (would of been nice to have a converstion) but hey ho from what i gather i was lucky to get a diagnosis but im struggling dealing with the diagnosis.

it seems fibro is linked to my emotions and from what i seem to be told by the specialist and even more so my gp so hinting rather strongly that there must be something not right with my mental state for the physical symptons to be so painfull.im not depressed either inside or out ,nor do i feel panic or feel i have any mental health issues right now.

im on amitrypterline and pain killers doing pilaties and as much gental exercise as i can but really having trouble walking right now amongst other things my feet hurt so much often i have trouble walking, went to gp she looked down at my feet (with shoes on) said losing some weight wont hurt you, double youre dose of amitrp ....any way so is that it from now on will every thing wrong with me now be put down to fibro and treated as though it doesnt warrent an examination or treatment?

oh and is it normal for my hair to full out/not grow in patches?

thanks for reading my ponderings love confused of essex x

Hiya, I am 2 a married mother of 5 but I don't have diagnosis as such! My gp has said 90% fibro. Still waiting on a neuro app and its horrible waiting.
My feet, legs and back are the worst and I'm like you on pain killers and amatryptaline.
I'm needing to return back to docs as its not doing much. As for excercise, running about after the kids is as much as it gets for me :(
I can't say about your hair as mine falls out 2 but it has done this for years.
I would speak to your doctor or maybe someone on this sight has more info on that.
Take care and hope your well

HI   Just me,

First of all FM is not "all in your head" that is a very outdated idea and one not backed up by recent research. I suffer from depression but it is one of the symptoms of FM rather than the reason for it . If you look at the advice section of the UK Fybromialgia home page there is a section all about sypmtoms of FM and also a section of FM/ thyroid issues.

I mention thyroid as I went to a specialist in April of the year and like you had a very short and simple session with him but one thing that did come out of it was he looked at a series of blood tests that my GP had arranged prior to suggesting FM . These indicated that I was possibly suffering from mild hyperthyroidism . The consultant took these results onboard and suggested as well as FM I had a failing thyroid and so he recommend a thyroxine replacement .

Not sure how sucessful it has been as I haven't as yet had any further blood tests but my hairdresser has noticed that I have got my thick head of hair back again, as prior to the treatment like you I was loosing what seemed like hugh amount every time I washed my hair.

perhaps download some of the advice and discussing it with you GP or another from the practise might help .

Hope you having a good day :hugs:

  and :welcome: to the forum :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing:

Sorry you've become a member of the FM club, now you're with us, we'll do all we can to help and support you. The forum is filled with so much advice and info, if you have a look and a read around you might come across some useful things that could help you :penguin: :penguin: :penguin:

As ISM has already said, the idea that FM is linked to just emotions is somewhat outdated. There are psychological elements to the condition which do have an effect on other things, but there are other things that need considering and managing as well, from pain thru to sleep problems.

How you're feeling since your dx is typical of what happens when you're told you have FM as there is so much to take in and get used to. The way most of us deal with this is to take things as they come, day~by~day, bit~by~bit. Then as you start to fine what is right for you, things start to feel a bit lighter and brighter for you.

anything you want to know about, all you need to do is ask about it and we'll try to help you with an answer 8-) 8-) 8-)
