Please help me with a diagnosis... anybody!

Postby hpno1 » Mon Oct 01, 2012 11:06 pm

Hey Please could anyone help me??
Im almost certain that I suffer with fms! I have aches and pains, I have chronic fatigue and the amount of energy I have is so minimal it is ridiculous!
I have had nearing onto 30 blood tests which have come back clear and was sent for an emg which came back clear also.
I have been told my next step is a muscle biopsy.. I want to avoid this at all costs because basically I am absolutely terrified and know that this too will come back clear!
Could you guys give me any tips or help on how you came about a diagnosis?
I'm only 19 and this is having such a massive impact on my life. I've tried explaining fms to my gp and brought it up with my rheumy specialist but feel like its being ignored!
Thanks x

I'm sorry to hear you're in such pain :(

FM does not show up on any tests, as of today. My doctor diagnosed me based on symptoms, and so-called tender points. Could you ask your doctor specifically if you have FM or something similar? I know there is a better picture then the one below, but can't find it right now. If your own doctor won't listen to you, you are entitled to a second opinion from another doctor.

Sorry we cant say whether or not you have FM and as the previous poster has said it is one of those conditions that is diagnosed by ruling things out rather than ruling them in, it can take years before a diagnosis is made due to the number of conditions that have overlapping symptoms. I have never heard of it being diagnosed with a muscle biopsy :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: maybe they want to rule out other conditions :?: :?: :?:

You really must go back to your GP and ask what it is they are looking for and why this particular test and ask them straight out if they have considered FM or not. If they are not listening then maybe consider changing your doc

Thank you for your help..
Yeah I was surprised when they said muscle biopsy and I'm sure they are ruling things out by doing all these tests.
I've tried to explain to my doctor and he was very unsure about it but I know a lot of doctors don't have much belief in fm!
I will try to get an appointment with my gp again about it. I know there's nothing they can do but a diagnosis would be very much appreciated!

I have CFS & fibro and even tho symptoms overlap i overtime have learnt whats what.

For me the fibro is chronic stiffness causing joint restriction and severe pain (with added symptoms) The CFS causes flu like symptoms and glands raised plus an all over body ache and exhaustion with added dizziness and disorientation.

The CFS is more of an ache pain like you just run a mile but actualy just had a bath. The fibro is rock solid muscles (deep tissue pain) in many cases causing trigger points. Thats my theory on myself lol.

Not sure if its helped :dunno: but a rhuematologist can diagnose FM and will know the difference to both.

So my gp has said that he cannot diagnose me because they need to rule other things out first so has anyone ever experienced a muscle biopsy?
And is there anything Natural that is good to take to calm down the aching?

At least you have a thorough doctor :)
Have you tried heat? I'm sure some of the other members can provide more tips... I'm still trying to figure stuff out myself. A heating blanket (electric blanket) in bed, the type you put under the sheets you sleep on, might help ease the pain at night.

A warm bath, if you have a tub. Perhaps with some oils in it.
