The Start of my journey!

Postby FibroPrincess » Sat Dec 01, 2012 5:41 pm

Hi,

I have been reading the posts on this forum for weeks now, sitting in the sidelines almost afraid to join. Why? A many number of reasons, being misunderstood by colleagues, friends, doctors and family I have felt very unsure of myself and have only allowed my husband and Mum "in" because they see me day to day.

To explain a little bit about myself. Since 2 years ago I have been unwell, but nobody knew what was going on. I can remember in particular last year when I had a head injury which continued to haunt me for a year (only became free on the head splitting headaches in May) and was what the Doctors like to call Post Concussion Syndrome. I was on pain medication and gaining weight month by month. Something did not feel right to me, was it normal for me to be suffering this long? Endless sleepiness nights, muscle pains etc. I had to take 6 weeks off of work in 2011, the most I had ever taken. I rushed back before I had even seen the specialist, it was a big mistake. Even cut hours couldn't help, the pain would consume me. All the while the specialists couldn't offer much. I was stuck.

So when I saw in 2012 with it I hoped to get off the pain medication I was on and be finally rid of Post Concussion Syndrome, i was not. April came and I lost my voice, something I thought must be unrelated. Even with this I tried to continue to work through it (2 weeks of a Sales Assistant unable to talk to customers) ........ the irony. The huge thing being that my manager would never send me home, maybe I had been off for too long in his eyes. After battling for 2 weeks I eventually got signed off for 3 weeks. In that time they tested me for EBV (glandular fever) but the results came back negative.

So after the 3 weeks I went back to work. By this time I was feeling really odd, symptoms were very nasty. I kept working. Fast forward to the middle of August and I was excited to have a holiday at home with my husband for a week and then another week just me at home (husband had a new job). I was feeling so rough most days and all the plans to go out etc had been squashed by my struggle.

September came and it was my first day back to work, bang it hit me. I remember waking up to get ready, doing the horses with my Mum and she said that I looked awful and to go to the doctors. Turns out I had had glandular fever in between April and September, hence the struggle. But something else was going on.

So lots of blood tests, GP appointments and specialist appointments later and they say it has got to be Fibromyalgia. I am waiting to get an appointment with a rheumatologist and have jet been informed that my SSP pay runs out Jan 9th! Huge panic! I have never been in such a tough spot. My husband lost his job, I will not be getting SSP from January and now I don't know what the future holds.

I have managed to reach out to a friend who has the same condition and is claiming DSA and says that she will help me. I'm just so overwhelmed but the form and the process, let alone all the horror stories. I've seen that there is ESA as well and an SSP1 form my employer needs to fill out. So I've sent him the form, downloaded the DLA and looked at the ESA. I am just so foggy from all the fibre symptoms that I don't know where to start, but I do know that if I don't sort something out soon I will be in a terrible situation.

I would greatly appreciate any help!

hi, sorry you are finding yourself in this horrid situation and we all understand the not wanting to let people in but what you have to remember and i still forget is we are suffering a horrid illness of no faulr of our own,

but you need to let people know what you are going through some will help others wont you find out the ones who realy care but those that dont are not worth bothering about those that offer help of anyform grab it will both hand as this will make life easyer for you,

dont be like me and let pride or feeling like a failour make you refuse and struggle on.

with the forms im sorry but not much help there only to say welfare rights seem to help alot,

i hope you can get the benafits you need and deserve without much of a struggle.

  and :welcome: to the forum

Sorry to hear what you've been going thru this year You've done well to get a dx so quickly tho, quite often it can take years before FM is even considered for some of us.

I've moved you into here with this being your intro post as it's a more suitable part of the forum.

There's lots of info and advice on here, have a look and a read around, there are some useful suggestions, esp on the DWP, Benefits and Working board.

Claiming benefits can be a frustrating process due to the state the system is in, it is possible to find your way thru it tho. I know you've mentioned a friend who has agreed to help you with things, but getting help from someone who is familiar with the Benefits system can help make a difference. Citizens Advice Bureau, Welfare Rights , DIAL and other similar organisations in your area can provide help and advice with completing the forms, so it might be worth looking to see who/what is around you. As well as the help and advice with the forms, they may even be able to give you an idea of what you could be eligible to claim. ESA would probably be the first one they look at for/with you.

Just ask about anything else you want to know about and we'll try to help you with it

If your dog doesn't like someone, then you probably shouldn't either
