Hello everyone,

I'm Victoria from North Manchester. I've had fibromyalgia for about 2.5 years, but was only diagnosed earlier this year.

After struggling for so long with changing GP's (I could never get an appointment with the same GP) I finally went private and found out what has been wrong with me all this time! From my reading on this site and other I'm absolutely shocked with the amount of people that went through the exact same horrors as me before diagnosis.

To make matters worse, you suffer all that time just getting worse and worse, to find out what you have and hope that you can now be helped to then be told nothing!

After going to see a private rheumatologist (which I really couldn't afford) at the recommendation of my GP, my GP then told me that he couldn't refer me to any NHS specialist clinic because my private rheumatologist didn't specify which clinic I should go to!! I've completely lost the will to try!

I've come here to make friends who understand what someone with fibromyalgia has been through and goes through every day. Maybe gain some knowledge of recommended treatments and therapies.

xx

:welcome: to our little FibroFamily Victoria :cow-wave: :cow-wave:

Sorry to read whaat you have had to go thru and deal with to get those answers you have been wanting. Sadly, it's one that comes up all too frequently and just makes you want to :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: And even when you go that name for what is affecting you, things can still be extremely frustrating.

Depending on the GP you see, it might be possible for you to make suggestions to them about possible treatments, meds etc that you could try to see if they make a difference to you xx If you have a looky around the it might help you find a point to start from.

Wrt to FM, meds and treatments, not everything suits everyone, so lengths of time can be involved in trying to find what helps you. A lot of the meds used need time to build up in the system and take effect, as well as dosages sometimes twiddling and tweaking, which can wear away your patience, as can dealing with possible side effects from meds. If you can bear things like this in mind tho, even when you're feeling at your lousiest, it can all help in getting you to a point where things can feel somewhat less intense xx

If your dog doesn't like someone, then you probably shouldn't either

Hi Helen, I'm Lindy! Nice to "meet you" :-).
I live near Glasgow, Scotland.
I too was diagnosed this year, in March, but have had symptoms for many years. Things all just came to a head mid Feb, and after seeing a rheumatologist, finally got a diagnosis. The positive about this, is that you can access treatment. Without a diagnosis, I felt I was constantly palmed off by GP, and no one seemed to listen.
Anyhoo - welcome onboard Helen.

Much Love

Hi Jaye, welcome to the fibro forums :welcome:

I hope you're not waiting too long for your appointment. Is your GP supportive, are you on any meds? Do you have much support? We have a great Facebook group with thousands of others with fibro, please know that you are not alone.

Hugs
Claire

Hi, I'm Rachael. I'm 46 & been diagnosed with FM for about 8 months. I desperately need advice. I have tried Gabapentin & then Pregabalin & couldn't function daily with these. I researched Topirimate & asked GP to be switched. She told me I had to come off Pregabalin first obviously so I took several weeks coming off it. I went back to GP Monday asking to now go on Topirimate and was told this can only be prescribed by specialists so have now been referred to Pain Clinic! I feel like the rug has been pulled from under my feet. My GP let me come off Pregabalin & now won't give me alternative. Referral will probably take weeks! I am in pain, not sleeping & back to square one. Does anyone have any info that may help me please? Thanks

:welcome: Rachel

Sounds to me like your GP does not want to give you any more medication and to let the pain clinic take over your pain. Maybe because GP feels they have better control over pain and does not want to start you on anything else.

You can thou ask for pain killers such as codeine / tramadol etc... to tide you over. Also you can ask GP to send referral as urgent because your in so much pain and GP will not help in between?

Hi my name is Davy and I am new to the forum. I've only recently been diagnosed with fm after a multitude of tests, scans etc.

I am 56 years old and have been suffering over the last 2 years. I am married with 2 grown up children and I am hoping to find out more about fm and get some support and advice in dealing with this illness.

I worked as a welder for the last 40 years but have had to give up work as I found it too hard to cope with the pain and fatigue.

I know fm attacks more women than men, but if any guys out there can help me by sharing their experience's in coping with this I would really appreciate it. However, any and all advice welcome.

I like to read crime, horror and funny stories, I love comedy and listening to music from a wide variety of artists.

Hi, I'm 62years old, two grown-up children and 2 grandsons. We have just returned from Australia, where my son, wife and grandson live. It was lovely but had lots of discomfort due to fibro!
Was diagnosed in 2007 and have steadily got worse! Get Sciatica, chronic back pain, headaches, insomnia - the list just goes on and on! It's just so miserable and seems things will never improve. I do try really hard to be positive but sometimes it's hard.
Looking forward to looking on the site and meeting people who suffer with fibro. Sometimes it seems I'm on my own! :-)
