Hi Tori & :welcome:

What symptoms do you have that you need advice on as many of us have widespread pain and some have pain in located areas.

As you just been diagnosed what pain management have the doctors given?

There are many medications and therapies that can help ease symptoms but im afraid its a trial and error as we all respond to different treatments.

The doctors normaly start with Amitripyline and physio, this is standered in most areas but there is so much more that can help.

This link is a good place to start, gives you an idea of treatments... http://ukfibromyalgia.com/pages/quick-help.php

Hello all,

I'm Oliver. I posted a little hello elsewhere on this site a couple of months back but I thought I might try posting on here to see if anyone wants to chat at all. I'm pretty stressed out at the moment, I've not been able to work for the last couple of years and have an appeal tribunal for my assessment of being fit to work in a couple of weeks and have no idea what I'm going to do if I lose. So would love to chat to anyone who's been through something similar there for one.

But also anything else that distracts me from that looming disaster for a bit is appreciated! Anyway, hope everyone's well!

Hi Oliver,

I'm not knowledgeable about these things, so unfortunately, I don't have info that could help alleviate some of that stress.
I can imagine how stressful it must be though.
I still work full time - at the moment, however, I've been signed off at the request of Occupational Health Dept until mid July. If I haven't had MRI and various other tests done, it could be longer. Thankfully, I get full pay for 6 months, then half pay for 6 months.
But if I'm being honest, it has crossed my mind, " what if I can't go back to work?"
Blooming awful that the worry of financial stress, adds to the already debilitating symptoms.
Fingers crossed for a positive outcome, Oliver.

Much Love
Lindy x

Hi, I'm Lorna, I was officially diagnosed with fibromyalgia a year ago but I have realised I've had symptoms for over twenty years. I have always worked inbetween crashing two or more times a year for weeks, months even years at time but it was put down to just my anxiety and depression.
Fast forward to now and I had to give up work a year ago due to the chronic fatigue, pain, mobility and all the other countless other symptoms I have. My life as I knew it is over, it's been flipped upside down.
I'm grieving for the life I had and I'm hear in the hope that I can make some sense of it and come to terms with my life as it now and move forward.
Thank you x

Hi Lorna, I'm Lindy. Nice to "meet you".
I can relate to what you say. It's very frustrating when life as we knew it, changes!. Even simple things, that used to come easy, are much more difficult, or unachievable. It's a pain in the a**!
I was also diagnosed last year, but like yourself, had symptoms for years previous. I came to a complete halt! My body seized up and I couldn't believe the pain all over.
After a month off work, I went back, and plodded on - until 2 months ago. I had to go off sick, after a fall. Been seen by neuro, and presently waiting on an MRI. Meds are being increased today, by my GP, on advice by neuro. It's going to take 6 weeks, for the gradual increase, for the dosage of gabapentin to be doubled to 1800mgs per day. So, rather than go back to work and risk going off again, if I can't tolerate the increase, Im asking for another 8 week line when the current 1 lapses on the 11th of July.
I have needed the break from work, to be honest. I didnt realise how exhausted I was. Gubbed, would be an appropriate word.
For someone who was very active, and always on the go, it frustrated me no end, that I couldn't do what I used to. Mentally and physically! The fatigue, pain, brain fog - the whole shabang.
However, all is not lost Lorna :-). We just have to learn how this condition affects us. In turn, when we know how it affects us, we learn to do things differently ( or find other things we CAN do) and we learn to listen to our bodies. I think that's the most important thing. I don't push myself further than I know what I'm capable of. There's no point, as it knocks me for 6 if I do.
What started as a " wee hello" , has turned to war & peace lol.
Anyhoo - you take care of yourself. You know your body better than anyone else.

Much Love
Lindy x

Hello Lorna xx Glad you've managed to find your way to us xx You're in good company on here, so anything you want to know about, just ask xx Anything that is bothering or annoying you, let it out xx Pretty much all of us have experienced times and situations similar to what you are juggling with at the moment and we understand how it leaves you feeling downside up and outside in xx

Lindy has given you some great advice xx It takes a bit of practice to get into living life with FM and it's effects, so just go day~by~day or even hour~by~hour xx Anything that doesn't work out quite right when you do it, file it away under the naff experiences to learn from xx And when you find something that makes a difference pop that under the good/not so naff experiences to learn from xx

Hello, I've just registered so thought I'd introduce myself. I am 45 and have 3 sons, my youngest is 19 and he started having symptoms which seem to fit fibro nearly 2 years ago. He had always been fit and healthy prior to this, going to the gym, football, skateboarding, you name it He had to give up his college course as well as all his hobbies and his beloved motorbike as he couldn't cope with the pain. He now gets around at home with crutches on his good days but outside he has to use a wheelchair. He still hasn't been diagnosed, he's seen several neurologists, a rheumatologist and OT from the CFS clinic. I think they're being cautious and making sure they've ruled out everything else first due to his young age but it seems they're slowly coming to the conclusion that it's likely to be fibro.
I am now experiencing a lot of similar symptoms after a car accident 3 months ago where I suffered whiplash. Today I've had a blood test for rheumatoid arthritis and thyroid. I had an mri scan of my neck which has shown degenerative disc disease but no damage from the accident. Tomorrow I have my first appointment at a pain management clinic. I'm still having physio but so far it only seems to make my pain worse. For a few weeks after my accident I experienced pain in my neck, shoulders and left arm and severe headaches, vertigo and vomiting. I now have pain everywhere, it can be in my legs, feet, lower back, hips. Mostly though I still have a lot of pain in my neck, shoulder and left arm. I have a pins and needles feeling down my arm most of the time and I seem to be getting a lot of pain on the inside of my elbows and back of knees. I've also had 2 migraines in the last 8 days which I never had before. I get a lot of pain in my muscles, it feels like I've run a marathon or been pumping weights, sometimes it feels like I've been kicked or punched and have severe bruising. In the mornings I'm stiff and at night the pain really kicks in. I'm on cocodamol, methocarbamol and amitriptyline.
My son is due to see a neurologist again in a couple of weeks and his rheumatologist has been trying to refer him to specialist centres in Newcastle, Leeds and Sheffield. So far Newcastle and Leeds have refused to see him, we are currently waiting to hear back from Sheffield.
I was wondering if anyone else has family members with the same condition?
In the middle of all this my partner has been off work sick since June and is awaiting surgery on his back. It seems that we only go out for doctor/hospital appointments!
I can only say that I really feel for anyone who has long term pain, I've had 3 months of it and that's more than enough. I want my life back! Hats off to you all for coping.

Thank you Lisa, I've been having a look around the forum and it seems there's quite a few people with family members in the same boat. Certainly makes for interesting reading...
