I have finally taken the plunge.

Hello everyone. After referring to the forum over the years for help and advice I have finally plucked up the courage to join. I know it's sounds strange to many but over the years I have started to live like a recluse and have forgotten how to interact with people.
I was diagnosed with Fibro about three years ago after eventually finding a Gp that took me serious about my continuous aches and pains. The last few years have been like riding a rollercoaster but I have eventually found a cocktail of painkillers that sort of help me.
Before that I was struggling to walk and was only working part time which I found really difficult. Today I am back working full time which is great as it forces me out the house and gives me that discipline to get up.
I am extremely lucky to have a very supportive husband, and two cats that encourage me to lay on the sofa and do nothing but sleep.
I have recently moved to Hailsham and have a dilemma I have to find a local Gp but petrified that I will find one that thinks I do not need to take all of these painkillers as it is all in my head. You know the type. Any suggestions on finding a Fibro friendly Dr would be appreciated.
I would like to take this opportunity and thank you all for your posts as over the years they have been invauable.

:cow-wave: :cow-wave: and :welcome: to our little sanctuary :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: Hope you'll find taking the plunge a good move. We try to make the forum as friendly, understanding and supportive as we can, as well as adding in a bit of fun to help with getting thru the FibroDays :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing:

Glad you've managed to find that helpful mix of things to keep you going life and work~wise

To try and find an FM~ friendly GP there are a couple of things you could try doing. Contact the surgeries that are in your area and ask if they have any patients with FM registered with them. If they have (they won't give you details but should be able to give you a generalised yes or no idea) then ask if there are any particular GPs that see these patients, and if there is one or two that work more in this area, ask about registering with them. Or, you could see if there are any support groups in the area you are now in and try contacting them for any recommendations of who to try and see, or even who to avoid seeing so your care and treatment can still be carried on as smoothly as possible.

Anythng else you're wondering about, just ask and we'll try to help you with it :cow-wave: :cow-wave: :cow-wave: :cow-wave:

Hi there

:welcome: as has already been said we all try and support each other and though we aren't physically there the virtual hugs and kind words I've had over the last year from people on here have been absolutely invaluable.

Well done for getting back to work full time! I still work - I used to do 45 hours a week I now do 30 and I have been able to pace myself at those hours now. I'm one of the lucky few who can still work, there are so many people on here who have had to stop working as their FM got worse and their stories are truly inspirational in regards to what they go through.

I also agree with what Fluppy said about finding a GP. I don't know how the GP surgeries work in your area but our main one has about 8 GP's, 4 nurses and a Primary Care Practitioner (who is a great alternative if you need an emergency appointment and they can still prescribe) Each of our GP's have a special field and my surgery was lucky enough to have my GP who specialises in joints/joint pain/chronic pain/rheumatology so when I was seeing another GP for the start of my FM I was referred in house to the GP I see now.

See if your GP Surgery has a website as this may also let you know a bit more about the practice, if all else fails try and get an appointment with any of the GP's listed and then explain to them what you need from a GP and they may be able to refer you in house (like mine) or even to a different surgery.

:fingerscrossed: you can find one who will support you.
What doesn't kill you will only make you stronger ;-)

Thanks for all you tips and advice. I have managed to find a support group in Eastbourne that meets up every second Tuesday in the month. I will give them a visit as soon as my shift allows me to.
I have also been gathering tel Nr's for the local surgeries. I need to wait until I have got my thinking head on for that (which may be some time). Hopefully I will then find a Gp soon.
