I'm new on here but can I have some favours?

I know it seems a little (large!) cheeky that I've just joined despite having fm/me for over ten years but I want to try and do something to improve consultations. I was before I was completely taken down a researcher and I have decided to present a paper at a medical sociology conference about communication between us long term sufferers and how consultants tend to go deaf. This is my and other people I am in contact with opinions I just wondered if any one would like to anonomously share any experiences they have had like this. You know the kind 'well I have fibro' silence 'carry on talkingto yourself'

Maybe I'm unlucky but I think communication is vitally important and something which is lacking.

Let me know if you'd like to contribute if not feel free to ignore this

love to all suffering mummy gray :-D

Hi there mummy gray

Welcome to our forum. I've actually had a really good experience with my GP/Rheumatologist and anyone I've had to see about my FM so I'm one of the lucky few.

I hope you can get some good stories for your paper though.

Thanks for the reply. I too have met some really caring doctors/consultants but many people seem to have difficulties - I have experienced what is meant by this communication block, and it's not that the Drs are uncaring they just do not understand and then ask inappropriate questions which suggest there is a communication problem. I'm not sure how it can be solved I think part of the problem is, well I've found, you see a different dr for each body part/condition, and there is no communication between these seperate clinics.
I'm not sure - but the paper is for discussion with medics so ....
again thanks for your welcome
best wishes to all of us and keep going.

:cow-wave: :cow-wave: and :welcome: to our little escape from the FibroWorld :cow-wave: :cow-wave: :cow-wave:

Like LouLou, most of my experiences with medical staff have been pretty positive, the only one that stands out is the rheumy that dx'd me and he was and still is, one of the dinosaurs of the NHS that the Ice Ages and cold winters keep somehow missing. That seems to be more about him tho as from the number of people I know who have seen him, he's like it with everyone, incl his staff/team.

FibroDuck Foundation gave us this linky to some documents etc that they have produced. They are designed to help patients get the best out of appts with docs/specialists/consultants http://www.fibroduckfoundation.com/downloads.html Wondered if there might be something in them that could potentially help with areas where people have told you they have had problems.

I've found that going in to see someone and being confident and direct without being aggressive usually gets things to where I need them to be. It doesn't take long for them to realise that I have researched the things I need/want/am asking about, so I tend to get less fobbing off, silences etc.
