Newbie looking for answers!

Postby Emilybossy » Mon Jan 19, 2015 9:38 pm

Hello everyone. My name is Emily and I am 19. I have been suffering with prolonged health problems and am starting to think that maybe fibro is the root cause. Been to the doctors plenty of times but it has never been mentioned however I am becoming convinced I have this condition. My symptoms head to toe are - migraine type headaches most days, anxiety and depression(diagnosed, not currently treated) brain fog, forget how to do simple things at work and my speech gets confused and slow. My shoulders hurt and ache almost constantly, I also get bad chest pains which feel how I imagine a heart attack to feel, sharp shooting pains over my heart and can't take a deep breath without pains, often get pains throughout my back or down my legs through my hips, also I have bad fatigue, even though I sleep generally well I always wake up exhausted and feeling rundown. I sometimes get restless legs while trying to sleep too and also completely random stabbing pains anywhere in my body lasting a few seconds each, I think these symptoms could be fibro, but reading some peoples stories on here my pains don't seen quite so horrific as others. Don't think I should be feeling so run down and exhausted at 19. :(. Replies will be appreciated! Thank you.

Much of that sounds like how I started off, yes.

Thank you for replying. What is the best way to force doctors to do tests/referrals? :)

I'm sorry, I've no idea. I went to my GP with a typed list of over 2 years worth of symptoms, he read it, and said, you obviously have a theory, what do you think it is? I said Fibromyalgia, he said, I agree, he did a bit of poking and prodding, we'd already previously done blood tests for a knee problem in case it was arthritis, so he promptly wrote out referrals to Neuro, Physio and Rheumatology. I saw all of the specialists within a few months, Physio told me I was in excellent nick for my age, neuro told me the same, both agreed with me and the GP, and the Rheumy set up blood tests and X-rays for my back/hip which was where the major pain was. However she did agree with the rest of us that it was probably FM, and when I went back to see her, all my results were fine, so she poked and prodded, asked more questions, diagnosed officially, and offered me a referral to the Pain Clinic, which I declined. Maybe going in with a list like I did might start the conversation?

Yeah might do that, my docs are awful. I see different ones each time cause I'm never satisfied with what they say. Went with the pain in my chest and it took 3 different docs till one set up ECG, bloods a X-ray. One literally told me it wouldn't be serious because I've had it for so long and if it was serious id be in worse health now! What kind of advice is that! I am 100% convinced I have fm. Just got to convince my doctors that I have too! :')

Hi,

You may have problems because of your age. Took me some force with my daughters GP to get them to run test then refer her on to a consultant. Shes was 16 then and now 18

They were wanting to diagnose depression yet i knew it was fibro as i myself have it.

I suggest you take a family member with you as "back up" so to speak. They will first of all run blood tests and may check for muscle stiffness and tender point areas. Then once the tests are done and fibro is presumed then you may get a referal to a Rhuematologist for diagnoses.

Now to ask for testing i would just come out with it that you suspect fibro and could they "rule it out"

Hi Emily,

I have had very similar symptoms to you since I was 20 (I'm now 28)

I would like to get in contact with you privately to discuss our issues, maybe you have found something that I haven't and I have found something you haven't etc and could help each other?

Let me know what you think
