I'm in shock...this is new to me!

Postby Halulee » Tue Feb 03, 2015 11:06 am

First of all i want to say Hello to all...but really I need some help with this.

I have been feeling extremely tired and suffering with pain over the past six months, in the hips mainly....I had some shoulder pain previously and have recently experienced a stiff neck. I wake up very stiff in the mornings and find it hard to put my Right foot down as I have a painful heel. I just put it down to working a lot and being on my feet all of the time because of the nature of my job...I went to see my GP re: my hips mainly thinking I had bursitis or even worse mild arthritis. He told me I had neither but suggested Fybromyalgia, I had no idea what he was talking about (sorry guys)....and I am a qualified nurse and despite hearing of it before, I must admit to not knowing much about it. I am now undergoing blood test etc and my GP wants to see me again soon....

He asked me if I had experienced any bowel problems.....Yes (Unexplained bouts of loose stools/then I can be constipated)
any problems with memory/concentration ......Yes (recently I showered and washed my hair and then could not for the life of me remember drying it) that was a strange experience and was even worried I had early onset dementia as i've had a few experiences like this.
I have experienced a feeling of disorientation (when I was a work and walking around the building and I have experienced not knowing where I am)
I have hypersensitivity...I have to ask my husband not to spray his deodrants in the bedroom in the morning. I cannot use my perfumes, hairsprays ect. I can't stand it when people shout, it just goes through me!

I have been very irritable and tired and have even shocked myself with my angry responses...as I am usually easy going.

Sometimes I just feel exhausted!

Are you guys familiar with all this? I just thought I was overworked and worn out!

Thanks for listening

Morning Halulee,

Yes, yes and yes :( your a nurse so already know it's best not to speculate, wait till your doctor has ran the tests to rule other things out etc but all the above sound very familiar to the beginning of my fibromyalgia journey many years ago.

The best advice I can give is to pace yourself, listen to your body and try to give it what it needs. Overstretching your limits may cause a worsening of your symptoms, as could worry/stress etc.

There are lots of natural things you can try to help, if personally wait until blood tests are completed, but vitamin D, magnesium, turmeric, ginger can all help reduce pain, I've not found anything that helps with fatigue though :( Epsom sales in the bath with a little bicarb help before bed in order to get off to sleep though.

I hope this helps a little, there is a world of knowledge on here, is also a very safe place to vent!
:) gentle hugs, Ria.
Fibromyalgia comes in many shapes, sizes and abilities... DON'T DISCRIMINATE!!!!

Hi,

Yes it's all sounding very familiar and although we can't diagnose you, lots of things you've said have rang bells with me. However, do bear in mind there can be other causes so always best to wait and rule everything else out.

I too hadn't heard of Fibro until my GP suggested it, and the best thing I did was read up on it. Start with the NHS page, and also there are useful leaflets about it on the Arthritis Concern website. Once you've done that, the next best thing is to jump in on here. Read as many posts as you can, start posting and become part of this fab community. We all know what it's like to have fibro and are very supportive, so welcome :)

Well thank you for your words..

I guess it was just a case of hang on Doc, what are you saying to me? and I just wanted to know more....
We'll see what transpires. The other thing I am experiencing now...I just feel so tired and need a break from work but we are so short staffed I feel bad for asking..and I just want to cry! I've never been one to cry...no its all I want to do x I just want a rest :0( x

Hi there Halulee - and big welcome to the forum!

And I'm sad to say, yes, it certainly does sound like it could be fibro. Chances are it might be a ton of other things too, but it does fit the bill. :(

I was certain I had some sort of infection at first... surely things don't go that badly wrong in such a short period of time! And it got really worrying for me when the dysphasia came (forgetting words).

But the good thing was for me to get a reason for my body and brain suddenly deciding to act like a proper pain in the behind. Although I think I would a preferred a nasty infection (hello antibiotics!). That said, as soon as there was an explenation, things did get a little better. Suddenly there's options on how to improve things, and a big relief was knowing that I had "brainfog", which means instead of getting worried, angry and frustrated when I had no idea what things were called, what day it was, what I was supposed to do, or the bizarre things I did do... knowing it was the fog at work I learnt to go with the flow instead.

Wishing you the very best of luck - and hopefully, whether it's fibro or something else, you will find something that works and improves your life!

Halulee .....it could have been me writing you're post......I am at my wits end ....was referred to the Rhumatology Dr he diagnosed Tendonitis ....had some injections that helped meds given ....not helped really...long story short had all these other symptoms and after research I think I could have FM....my gp thinks so too he wrote to the specialist and when I had an appointment last week I had to ask the nurse to check where the letter could be ....feel I am being fobbed off every time x
