Hello - Many Tests, No Diagnosis, advice please?

Postby Ichante » Mon Jun 01, 2015 11:17 am

Hi,

I am going through the process of having lots of blood tests and scans and being referred to different 'specialists'. I haven't had a diagnosis yet. However, I am almost positive I have Fibromyalgia because I have nearly all of the symptoms that describe this condition.
I am 52 years old, and due to the complex number of symptoms, I have seen a consultant at a menopause clinic,(he diagnosed me with a severe form of pms and I have subsequenlty had a full hysterectomy) An endocrinologist ( who has diagnosed me with Reactive hypoglycemia, high blood pressure and mild hypothyroidism). I have muscle weakness, joint pain and long periods of fatigue. I am waiting to be seen by a rhuematologist (painful and stiff hands/neck and lower back pain). Also waiting to see a gastro specialist. I am reluctant to bring up my suspicion of Fibro to my current G.P because of past experience of being told my symptoms were all in my head.
I may be wrong and perhaps on the wrong site, but would like some advice from anyone who has experienced a similar journey.
Thanks

Obviously none of us can say whether you have fibro or not, but if you are seeing a Rheumo anyway I would mention it to them. A lot of us were officially diagnosed by our Rheumo rather than the GP, so it's really the best place to raise your thoughts.

Hi

I, like you, have had an obscene amount of tests over the past 2 years, some quite invasive! Most of these have been completed under the eye of my neurologist as it was initially thought that I had clinically isolated syndrome (precursor to MS) and possible TIA's after I displayed stroke like symptoms with tingling etc down my left side. I know have full blown pain, fatigue like I never imagined possible and a brain fog which means that a task which would normally have taken me a couple of minutes now takes an hour or so. I have been referred back to a pain consultant and psychologist, and am trying to taper myself off the ridiculous amount of meds I've been given over the past 6 month (120mg duloxetine, 150mg pregabalin) which I genuinely feel are doing nothing for my pain. I tick so many boxes too, and have been told by neuro she believes it's fibro chronic fatigue so at least it has a name now and I think it'll be a lot easier to get my head round now it's written on a bit of paper. Good luck in your search for a diagnosis, I know how difficult it is for you xx take care :-o
