Resisting the idea

Postby Natasa » Tue Nov 24, 2015 6:42 pm

Hello everyone, Natasa here!
I joined this forum some months back but haven't been back on it. I am still sort of switching back and forth from resisting the idea of fibro to making peace with the diagnosis. I am still angry, not with the diagnosis itself, but with the things that I can't do or the symptoms etc.
My problems have been increasing over years but the treating of it is quite current.
So far the GP has gone from telling me I am too young for my "problems", to telling me I probably have RA and putting me on naproxen, to a rheumatoid specialist telling me I have fibro. I was then kept on naproxen and nortriptyline was added. I saw a physio who concluded that I am active in my work so I wouldn't benefit from seeing him but referred me to a pain clinic.
So far I had one initial appointment, since then they are sending me to weekly Tai Chi lessons, and I am waiting on I believe a pain management course, possibly psychologist? and CBT.... if I remember that correctly. Its a lot to take in.
Anyway, I do tend to ramble on so my apologies!
Looking forward to chatting with everyone :-)

:welcome: to our little cyber escape from it all Natasa :cow-wave: :cow-wave:

What you're experiencing at the moment, the wrestling with the dx, is something that a huge number of us have experienced along the way in our lives with FM. It's as if it's part of the process we have to find our way thru before we can learn how to live the life we now find ourselves with. So you're in good company on here as we understand what you are going thru, and can try to help and support you as you find what is the best way for you thru this.

It sounds like you've got a pretty decent and efficient team of peeps looking after you, which is just what you need. Sadly, there are still far too many fellow FMers having to battle and struggle for recognition of their problems with their healthcare professionals.

I've been on a pain management course, and have also had various therapy sessions over the years that I've been part of the FM Club. They can be very helpful, but unfortunately don't suit everyone. I found that if I went with my mind as empty of expectations as I possibly could, and just had the sole aim of getting as much as I possibly could from each session, then the benefits seemed to be greater compared to when I had been full of expectations and goals. Give them a go, you've nothing to lose, and quite possibly some benefits to gain xx

If your dog doesn't like someone, then you probably shouldn't either

Hello FluppyPuffy
Thank you for the warm welcome! I am really pleased that I am finally on the right track, and hopefully won't have to deal with the GP (who was quite unsupportive and rude) as much.
I am taking it all in open minded. I am not sure Tai Chi is doing much for me but oh I do enjoy going there quite a bit so I will keep it up for the full 20 weeks, if nothing else it provides me with a pleasant morning once a week.
I am really looking forward to the pain management course and all the other stuff, just not sure how long I have to wait for it all to happen.

It helps to know there are others who know what I'm on about (even when it seems like I don't). My hubby sympathizes but I can tell he doesn't understand. Others in my life even less so.
