New diagnosis

Hi all

I've just been diagnosed with fibro and have found this site.

I don't know if there are any about but does anybody know of ant brochures I can download and give to my work place?

I find it hard to describe it and thought if I give them a leaflet it will help them understand.

Work is being great very supportive so no issues there.

This is a general guide intended for patients at work ... st-working

the only thing I can find for employers is this, although I don't agree with the bit about 'fibro sufferers can do anything' on the same page.

An Employers Role

To address concentration issues, employers may wish to consider:
Allowing periodic rest periods
Prioritising job assignments and providing more structure
Providing written job instructions when possible
Allowing flexible work hours and allowing a self-paced workload
Reducing job stress
Providing memory aids, such as schedulers or organisers
Minimising distractions

To address depression and anxiety, employers may wish to consider:
Reducing distractions in the work environment
Reminding the employee of important deadlines and meetings
Allowing time off for counselling
Providing clear expectations of responsibilities and consequences
Allowing breaks to use stress management techniques
Developing strategies to deal with work problems before they arise
Allowing telephone calls during work hours to doctors and others for support
Providing information on counselling and employee assistance programs

To address fatigue and weakness, employers may wish to consider:
Reducing or eliminating physical exertion and workplace stress
Scheduling periodic rest breaks away from the workstation
Allowing a flexible work schedule and flexible use of leave time
Allowing the employee to work from home
Implementing ergonomic workstation design

To address issues associated with sleep disorder, employers may wish to consider:
Allowing flexible work hours and frequent breaks

Hi Kreloc

I got an information booklet from Rhuematologist, which was good. However, I did ask my line manager to educate herself on fibro ( asked politely), as it would be difficult for her to support me if she had no idea how it can affect a person.
Printing out the info Perseus has given, would be helpful indeed.
Unfortunately, my manager didn't appear to be interested- or that's how it seemes to me. You get people like that eh!
After a year of plodding on and doing my best, I am now off sick and will be for at least 2 months til neuro finds out what's going on with me.
I had a fall - not in work, but this has spurred them into action and I was referred to Occupational Health, who said in no way will I be returning to work until neuro has discovered (hopefully) what's happening. Shame it takes the sh*t to hit the fan for action to be taken.
I hope your workplace continues to be supportive.
