Hi to all from DownUnder

Postby Kiwi Kate » Sat Oct 24, 2009 12:26 pm

Hi to everyone and hope you are all having a good day - well as good as possible.
I am probably one of the furtherest away members you might have although I have lived in the UK for 18yrs, originally from New Zealand. I am 39 and dreading winter!

I used to have my own cleaning business but had to dissolve when job got too much, I resent it now when DWP imply that I don't want to work, they kicked me off 2yrs running only to win at tribunal everytime - almost felt like suing them as forced me to work and nearly crippled me after 4wks! physically couldn't get up the stairs, woman in Jobcentre couldn't believe they had fit me for work and asked "what are you able to do" told her "your lot fitted me for work so you tell me!", she didn't now what to do. Won't give DLA as regarded as 'capacable of looking after myself' - but that before pos FM also so might reapply as looks like they might consider/recognise this more!?!

It has only recently been suggested from Docs that FM (he tested the 18pts) could now be the problem but as been for 5yrs they don't know! Started with pain in index finger (developed swan neck deformity) and now is hands, wrists, elbows, R shoulder, L knee, R ankle and - been to long to ignore as anything else, keep trying to convince myself its not progressed - my back. Docs not able to pinpoint cause so had years of not knowing how to treat and due to lack of test results they settled on seronegative arthritis, although I kept telling them that It feels inbetween and not the actual joints. I looked at FM 18 mths ago but didn't think it applied as it wasn't as progressed as now but looking at it again it makes alot of sense - and ties in a few other things also, things not associated with seroneg. ie. constant fatigue, memory blurs, monthly etc. Think I need to go back and see Doc again!!

I'm on methotrxate and hydroxychloroquine, dihydrocodiene and Ibuprofen and if don't need to be then brill, especially the first two (been on 6mths and have made no difference), but have read now that both conditions FM + SeronegA can run together, even cause one to make the other happen - has this affected anyone or know someone in this way?? Love to hear from you or what you can suggest.

Sorry, twaddled on a bit xx

Hi Kate :welcome: to the forum.
Sorry to hear you might have fibro.
You should ask your GP to send you to see a Rheumy, they are normally the ones to Dx you.
Hope you get some answers soon. Any questions just ask.

Nice to hear from you
I first saw a Rheumy back in April 2005 when problem was just in index finger, had pain off n on but one morn it looked like it had been hit with a hammer, went to GP he sent me to Rhuemy. Cos Doc didn't know what caused it he told me to keep it strapped - after two weeks couldn't bend it for next 18mths - I asked then if it was the tendons n got told 'probably not', I thought it was. July 2005 got sent to Hand Specialist at Wrightington H and they then faffed around with tests, after 12mths of physio etc I told them to just open it up and have a look, it wasn't quite what they did but not far off, did intrinsic release and now have approx 75% movement. In this time it had progressed into other fingers and hand, wrists which was totally baffling them. The main problem is they have never been able to determine what has caused my problem/symtoms so they don't know how to treat it. It's not something that hit my system all over but just progressively moves onto another joint area. Anyho after surgery they deemed he had fixed that problem and shifted me onto WH Rhuemy team and been with them 9mths, they think seronegative Arthrits so put me on the HCQ and Methotrexate but it hasn't slowed or stopped the progression like they hoped it would do - in this time it has moved into my back so much I can't get away trying to convince myself that..its the bed, need a new mattress, the way I sit, too much walking etc - if I try not acknowledge then it nots really that bad!?!? but..
I think I'll go back to the Rhuemy anyway to discuss the FM a bit more, don't know if he was suggesting it for me to look at and then get back to him, I try to clue myself up and I think they appreciate it!?! I can know what their on about and ask more involved questions than just the basic.
My L knee gives me jip, has for awhile, never looked before but noticed my leg had swollen by 1inch, it had gone down by morning, every evening has checked and same thing. This is new for me so why I'm going back also. Anyone else this happen to?

Swelling doesn't occur with FM but it could be an associated problem... not sure what though, sorry.
