Hello, I'm Claire and I am a fibromyalgia sufferer

Postby stargrrlclaire » Thu Dec 17, 2009 9:55 am

Does anyone else feel like they have to introduce themselves like that?!

I'm a newly married, animal addict, along with being diagnosed with asthma and ethlos danlos syndrome, along with having fm. I think the three maybe linked? I was only diagnosed last year, but have been suffering with FM aslong as I can remember. My main symptoms are being in agony all over, catching all the bugs that are going round, exhaustion, photo sensitivity, sensitivity to the cold, fibrofog and depression. :(

I feel like no-one in my family, co-workers or friendships groups understand. All they think is "she's let us down again" because I can't go out or to work. I'm starting a new part time job today as a carer in a persons own home, I also work part time on a till at morrisons. I used to work at morrisons full time, but the stress they put you under along with the type of job it is just got too much for me. :needhug:

More about the positives in my life... I married my husband, Andy, on the 28th November, the best day of our lives. I have 5 guinea pigs and 4 gerbils and they bring so much joy into my life! I also have a niece, Poppy, who was born on the 28th September 2008, and my sister is due to have her second baby on the 13th April. It's so exciting! :blowkiss: :hugs:

I'm so glad I've found this forum! I look forward to chatting to everyone!

Hi Claire

Welcome to the forum but sorry you have Fm. Unfortunately, not many people understand us with this condition but i try to deal with it by telling myself that noone can imagine whats it like to live with unless you have it yourself.

I was diagnosed with fm last christmas after 15 years of suffering. I also suffer from CFS. I did work as a dinner lady for an hour a day. I gave that up on the 8th of December to be a carer for a blind lady. It was for 4 hours for 2 days. I crashed out on my first day and have been housebound since. I'm slowing regaining some strength back in my legs.

I am also an animal addict like you. i have six guinea pigs, 3 girls and 3 boys. Five hamsters but one is very old and wont have much longer and an adorable 7 year old springer spaniel. My hamsters are my favourite animal and would buy everyone in the shop but my husband has banned me from anymore. (he says that but he's as bad as me).

Take care

Thank you for the warm welcome Lorraine, it is hard for people to understand. For years my family said it was just growing pains and laziness, even my doctor said the fatigue was normal for my age (even at 25!!!). I had to wait until I was 27 to be diagnosed (I am 28 in february) and even the diagnosis has helped me as I know I'm not mad or a hypochondriac!

I think I could have CFS, it's horrible. I must admit I'm thinking about going to the job centre to see what benefits I'm entitled too to see if I can drop my hours at work as I definately think I haven't really got the strength, brain power or ability to work much. Which I've known for years if I'm honest.

Thank you again.

Claire xxxx

Hi there. Any questions just ask.

Btw, your photo is really cute but adding to every post makes the post thread really long!

Hi

I'm really struggling at moment with weak heavy legs. I've been told that exercise is the only option to strengthen them. Exercise really does help but just wanted to know if anyone had any more help and advise regarding trying to get my muscles stronger.
Thank you

Hi Lorraine

Have you ever been assessed for myofascial trigger points? A specialist physio, a specialist massage therapist or a doctor like Prof Davies (who is trained in and experienced in sports rehab medicine) would be best to do this.

If you have active trigger points in a muscle it will be a lot harder to strengthen that muscle. It will also be more painful to exercise that muscle. So addressing myofascial issues is an important part of making exercise more effective with Fibro.
