Newbie in Liverpool

Postby prepareathome » Tue Jul 20, 2010 11:47 am

Hi, I am new here, but not new to fibro :?

I am Debbie, 54, married, have 3 children - all gone from home, and 3 grandchildren, live on the edge of Liverpool and Halewood, I live right on the border and am in Liverpool - people across the road pay less council tax than me

I was eventually diagnosed in 1998 when a new doctor came to our surgery and actually believed me - sent me for all the usual tests and the neurologist told me after all of course coming back negative except the tender points that I had fibro, he didn't call it that, but at the moment mind blank, typical. He explained to me all about it but said he could do nothing for me so discharged me back to my own doctor, and it was her that first mentioned fibro to me. She has been wonderful, as has another doctor that joined our surgery a few years ago. I know how lucky I am having them there.

Three years ago I started being so exhausted, more than every before and doctor sent me to see another specialist, this one in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and he diagnosed me with having that now as well. This past three years I have been more in bed that out of it, either because of exhaustion or the pain - that is with me 24/7 even with painkillers.

I do my best to stay positive and hope that the CFS will eventually go and do what I can, when I can - mind you this means things very often get done in middle of night as I have terrible problems trying to keep my body clock in tune with normal world lol. I have all sorts of interests, all that can be done at home, thanks to internet, and from my bed if I have to, except my gardening of course - grow all sorts in pots as digging and bending beyond me.

I find I do things in phases, like will knit for weeks and I knit and knit then suddenly cannot knit for weeks, gardening of course I have to make myself do, but rest of interests are on and off. Audio books have been my life saver, as can listen to them even when to exhausted to do anything else.

I am very unreliable, I feel I walk round with a big sign that says this over my head and it does cause problems with my children even after all this time........if I can do something one day then they expect me to do something else the next and nothing anyone tells them will make them accept this is not possible for me.

I wonder if there are any people here from Liverpool or Knowsley, as over the years lost most local friends, although I am blessed with some wonderful online friends from around the world. Would love to chat to others locally who have this wonderful condition. I don't mean to moan and groan about it, more have a laugh and joke about it and of course talk about other things.

Big Hugs

Debbie

HI Debbie and welcome,

I know how you feel about expectations, my eldest son pulls a terrible face and says things like "What's this?" when I have a bad day and I am struggling to walk properly. I almost die of embarassment, and get so mad I could spit nails. lol.
The youngest treats me like a wayward puppy, and that has about the same effect.

Walking sticks are useful for many, many reasons, and mine is about to become a weapon if they don't sit up and take notice.

Hope you find lots of useful stuff on the site and make a new set of friends near you.

Jena.

Hi Debbie, :welcome: Welcome to the forum. I'm new here too and have found it great to talk to others in similar situations, it's really been a lifesaver. I expect myself to do things one day and then be able to do them the next  I'm still learning to live with it, I'm just a bit hopeless at it  and family I think are learning quicker than me about it! Never mind, it's great to try and stay positive, I think we all try and of course we all have our moments, but on here they really are a great bunch to know. Hope you find some friends close to you. Take care Cherry :hugs:

Hello Debbie,

Welcome to the forum.

We seem to share a few things in common. Firstly we spend a great deal of time in bed and secondly I used to live just off Mackets lane.

Hope you get all the help you need on forum

xxxx
