Hello and I wonder if ...

Postby Mr Sputnik » Sun Mar 13, 2011 7:44 pm

Hello.

I've been having a flick through the posts at this forum and it seems so many of you have such tough times. I can't pretend to be suffering physically as much as you guys.

However, recent flairing up of pain in my knee has made me re-evaluate my general state of health. I've been thinking for some years that something is wrong, but not quite able to put my finger on it. I told my doctor recently that I think I suffer from being a chronic hypercondriac!

However, my main problems have been malaise, leading to problems at work and home, leading to depression. Recently, a flair up of pain in my knee made me think more seriously about the various aches and discomforts I always seem to have had. So after doing a bit of googling, I thought I'd list all my "symptoms".

Now, I no I can't expect a diagnosis here, but I'd be grateful for any thoughts you guys might have about this list?

Symptoms

Malaise, lethargy, hopelessness, fatigue, desire to sleep, overwhelming sense of dread
Foggy / wrapped in cling-film
Leads to failure to do things, even simple tasks → results in trouble at work and at home → depression
Desire to disappear
I can have days/weeks of clarity and enthusiasm, but these seem rare.
No motivation to do anything, even the things I want to do. Extreme lethargy.
i get very emotional, react very strongly to things by sulking and getting tearful, Over sensitive and paranoid

Achy knees, hands, ankles -- joints
Achy muscles - legs; arms eg when driving - heaviness of limbs; hands; neck and shoulders
restless legs
Irritable bowel
whirly colours lights in eyes if get up too quickly, rolling at aikido
occasional faintness - can overheat or over exert
panic attacks (ish)
prone to heat stroke
heavy sweating and severe night sweats
asthma - exercise a bit; sudden changes in temperature
hayfever and dust allergies (mould?) Damp
allergic to some beers? Lef can bring about severe asthmatic reaction to physical activity

Thank you all for reading my post, and any advice is gratefully received.

 and :welcome:

I've read thru your list of symptoms, and while some of them can be related to FM, some of them aren't ones I can remember coming across. As you've said yourself, we can't give you a dx, for that you need a dr/specialist and usually a number of tests and checks to see if there is another explanation for what is causing you the pain and other things.

The symptoms you've described, as well as being part of FM, can also be part of other conditions/illness as well. The usual thing to do is, starting with your gp, explain all your symptoms and that you think they may be due to something like FM. Your gp will usually send you for blood tests and any other tests they feel necessary. Once the test results are in and based on what they have come back with, you could be referred to a rheumatologist who usually specialises in things like FM, or another suitable consultant/specialist, or your gp may feel confident enough to make a dx themselves.

Once you have a dx, you can then be started on a suitable treatment program that will hopefully help you get some semblance of control back :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed:

If your dog doesn't like someone, then you probably shouldn't either

Ditto to the above, definitely agree with Flup's post its really the only way to go, I would check out depression too as some of your symptoms may point in that direction.

It's impossible for up to diagnose on a forum, were we even trained for such. Can only echo what the others have said take your list to the gp and talk it over with your gp. Your gp will do blood tests etc and refer you to the right consultants when necessary. Please let up know the outcome.
