Ergotherapy

Postby Verohen » Thu Apr 26, 2012 10:18 pm

Hi

Having been rediagnosed with FM with CFS confirmed too, I have now been referred to a Fibro specialist in Rheumy (Belgian clinic) since I feel that things have been getting progressively worse - and this could be an age thing? I'm OK with the physio which is helping a bit. I've had FM for over 17 years and now have had Ergotherapy added to my list of things to do. This includes being taught to stand, sit, empty and fill cupboards, kneel - the list is endless. It's strange being taught by a 20 year odd newly qualified teacher when I'm a lot older than her (and I tower over her!) Physio is one thing but I question the additional ergo. Has anyone else had to try this in the UK and if so, we're there any benefits?

Best wishes

I have not heard this in the UK

I did have a read up as i wasnt aware of this type of help.

I havent come across anyone yet who has been offered this or tried it.

Its a very good way to help people do things more correctly which can also help prevent muscle spasms and help with posture.

I hope it helps you :-)

Hello again

Just ome back from my 2nd session where I had to remove 6 plates from a 'kitchen' cupboard, lay a table and put the plates back again. I also was taught how to get in and out of the car. They recommend putting a plastic bag on the car seat so that you can swing round to ease getting in and out. Will givebit a try! Find thebsessions a bit awkward but it does get you to reevaluate how we move and how to correct posture to alleviate pain. Next session: gardening and hopefully there will be some good tips there.

Enjoy your day

I think i would benefit from this as i am prone to a certain area of my back going into spasm and it only takes that one wrong move and im floored for weeks :yikes:

If i had of read this earlier i wouldnt have had problems getting in and out the taxi  it was a big car (dont drive not a clue what it was lol) one of those that you have to lift your leg high to get in!! i could have put a shoppin bag on the seat to help me :-D

be interesting to see what other advice and tips you can give us with your sessions

Hi, I don't have a session for a couple of weeks and she promised
Me something for then. Will keep you posted.

Am proud that I managed to do some gardening today and was just taking
my time to gently bend and ease out weeds. But the main thing is to use long handled tools - and light too! Found a great piece of equipment to ease out dandelions etc from Lakeland : grandpa's weeder. What a find! Would not be parted and it removes the offending weed without too much discomfort or bending over. That's my tip of the day. I pace myself too. No point in overdoing it although we have a large area to cover.

Good luck. Watch this space for when I have more more tips from the physio.

In Belgium we offer lily of the valley to friends/family on 1st May to bring luck to the recipient.
So I am sending you all a virtual plant and wish you good luck!
