Ideas for finance

Postby buxbunny » Wed Oct 17, 2012 7:44 pm

Hi been a while since been on but could use some advice.

A Lot happened since i've been last on birth daughter and death of relative. Couldn't even greve or else fm completely grip me.

My current economic problems is i have about £10 in account and no idea what to do.

My only source of income is low rate care DLA which awarded by appeal tribunal on the grounds i can not cook a meal and they wouldn't take anything into consideration past december as that is when my original claim was. I spent about 5 weeks gathering evidence and pain dairies to send in to them but all that was for naught. I think manly my thought because i rushed to do it without help and as i was in denial stage i omitted a lot of information and did bit of padding out of embarrassment.

I since had the help of benefits advisor and have just applied for esa. It taken me about 3 months just to do the initial application and the dates for application and doctor certificate date back to 1 July so no idea what they're going to say about that. The whole process seems daunting with all horror stories of medicals and all of it and if just me alone i wouldn't bother with i. I doubt i will get it but honestly don't know who hire me when can hardly do anything or even guarantee i will be able to attend.

Advisor thinks i should wait another 3 months before asking for my DLA to be reviewed as tribunal was back in 14th May (day before my birthday) as gives them at least 6 months but i think by then with all bailiffs and every wanting money for something i'd probably be homeless by then. ALso having shot myself in the foot they'll just keep looking back to original application.

Her reasoning is that they could just take away my low rate car and i'd be left with nothing. I don't want that to happen but the low rate care is close to nothing as once i explain my situation and in receipt of Dla : lrc they just seem to turn off and get in mindset theres nothing wrong with me.

Also all the changes i'm hearing about like no more low rates and this and that being taken away makes me feel like what's the point.

I've even gone far started selling things off such as car and stuff round the house (better go my family than debt) but once the car goes i won't even be leaving the house because mobility is so bad.

I did have car accident back in January which made my condition worse and reason why its taken so long to fill in forms and chase things up. Fortunately thanks to forums i got in touch with Brian Barr solicitors and they are dealing with my claim but these things do tend to take a lot of time.

My OH wants to go get job but she is only career for me and my daughters and without her be totally stuck and be near impossible to look after newborn and 2 yr old.

She's extremely supportive and been the best in the world but i can feel tension between us mounting because current predicament.

FM already taken my life and livelihood i don't want it to take my family too...

Probably sounds a bit obvious, but have you had a full financial review?? Not only to see where you might be able to make adjustments to your budget, but also to see if you're claiming everything that you could be entitled to.

Thinking about the times when things were tight for us, and not knowing what your exact status is, if you have any outstanding debts, you could look into the possibility of moving them onto a lower rate, or contact them to discuss the possibility of going onto a reduced payment programme. Food shopping wise, if you can plan a menu for the week ahead, and make a list to take with you, sticking to what you need rather than buying on impulse could help reduce your budget, as could switching to own/budget~brand items and/or shopping in the cheaper stores. Depending on when things are due for renewal/review, you could try and find better deals for things like insurance, gas and electricity etc.

This linky might have some helpful advice as well https://www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/ And there are always places like CAB and other local organisations that can help and advise you.

Thanks for the advise.

I've contacted most companies explain situation but unsympathetic.

Insurance is out window with ridiculous quotes so cut it out completely but think i'm on best deals for everything else. Shopping wise its own brand and home delivery and cut out snacks and luxuries completely.

I will try going back to CAB but usually unhelpful plus here they have no phone line have to write in to get help.

Most benefits don't open up till your at least middle rate care and i genuinely believe i should be on HRM and MRC from how i'm affected.
I want pursue it but seems like big gamble.

I too need help. I've had to go to debt management because I have had to cut my hours at work. Due to this I can't remortgage my home when I have enough equity in it to clear what I owe. The bank wouldn't help, noone will except payday loans. I don't know what to do. I can't pay my bills, my husband is unemployed and can't get benefits as his last job was parttime and he didn't pay NI. All the stress has caused another flare up and I'm off sick getting SSP so can't pay bills again. Don't know what I'm going to do.
If anybody knows what I can do, where I can get help, please let me know.

Christians Against Poverty can also help https://www.capuk.org/home/index.php# They provide free advice like the National Debtline. If you find you need to go onto a reduced payment plan and need help in sorting things with creditors, please try to avoid the ones that advertise on tv and in the classifieds in papers. These companies tend to charge for their services, taking a fee from the monthly amount you send them to cover the reduced payments they have negotiated with your creditors.

I really understand how much this affects and impacts on things as we have been there as well. For us it was just as I was starting to have health problems, we'd just moved house and OH lost his job. Altho he got another one fairly quickly, the pay was much lower which left us in the situation where our options were either pay the bills OR eat :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: We had to go onto a reduced payment plan. Things did eventually start to straighten themselves out, but it did take a number of years. Altho the reduced payment plan was      (we had both been in the banking industry) looking back, if we hadn't done it we would have probably lost everything

wow thank you guys so much for support and suggests i really appreciate it.

Is it me but i feel terrified for anyone gets a disability now or in future with cuts/reforms their making as just got questionnaire for esa and cover letter saying i and my partner would need to go work based interviews. I had no idea it had anything do with her.

Just an update although i haven't had change in income i have had to lump sums.

First from council refund for council tax. 3 of us was previously living in a flat and they decided they would target me to reclaim council tax for few years ago. Kinda hard to fight a case when have fibrofog from years back but stuck to my guns and got money back bailiffs took (£600 for aledge £200 debt) turns out they don't follow their own rules and they gave full refund.

Second was from SLC refusing to pay money while student and they seemed determined not to pay now i'm not but it has turned up into account with cover letter of being reassessed.

At least my daughters can have decent christmas and ration for coming year if we make it past 2012. lol.

hi buxbunny

Regards to your rent/morgage you should be entitled to help with paying it. You need to get forms (bane of our lives) and produce bank statements and other paperwork etc. So housing benefit could help. They did me when i was nearly made homeless over a yr ago.
I think the majority of us have huge debts,me included, its how we handle the stress that it all brings. The 'what ifs' are an absolute killer. I have to make a plan about how i'm gonna sort stuff and go from there. I'm no angel still duck my head in the sand which i know isn't healthy but otherwise i'd go completely

hope that your pain is at least manageable today

Thanks for your reply.

My partner deals with the benefits i just follow up problems and shout at people.

Speaking which i am calling up the council to shout at them right now.#

They treat you like a leper begin for table scarps.

Were in receipt of housing benefits but it seems every other week they writing with a reason why we owe them £XXXX amount of money.

Apparently we never told them we were students and so we need pay back this years housing benefits which kind strange since I wonder how they applied the student exemption on the account.

What I wouldn't give to be in finical position to give them a middle finger in regards to their benefits.

I know this is an old topic but I don't use the forum very often and have only just found it. I know exactly how you feel as I too only get low rate care. I live with my partner who works full time and pays for all food, bills etc so I don't have that to worry about. My problem is, when I moved in with him 3yrs ago I worked full time and earned a very good wage. As his house is a lot smaller than mine was and he had everything, I gave away almost all of my belongings including things that I had collected over the years from trips abroad with my kids who are now adults.

I look around me and all I really possess are a few items of clothing and my laptop which was a gift. I have a lot of debt after being in a very bad relationship before I met my partner. So I get £82 a month, £10 of which goes on prescriptions. I have to pay for my own eye tests and glasses and although I have the sole use of the car during the day I have to pay for petrol so I rarely leave the house as it costs too much.

The last DLA payment I received went on prescriptions, a special cushion for between my knees as I suffer with bursitis of the hips, tube grips for my wrists, £5.90 to send a letter to the DLA by recorded delivery so they couldn't claim they had lost it, clary sage oil for my bath because it's the only thing that relaxes me and a microwave heat pack. It's the same every month, although I generally pay some off my debts aswell. It seems to me like the more DLA you get, the more you can get for free. I'm not saying that you shouldn't by the way.

I am still waiting for my 1st claim to go to tribunal, been waiting since June 2012 and now my existing claim has been passed onto them too. I have just asked them to look at my claim again as I have gotten worse in the past few weeks. I paid £50 for a medical and my GP clearly stated that I could not walk more than 50 metres, get in and out of bed or up and down the satirs, wash my hair or dress myself but it was too late as it was already at tribunal stage.

I am at my wits end. Sorry if this doesn't make any sense or if I have gone off on a tangent but I am so upset right now. I am sitting here wondering how on earth I am going to exist on this money and my partner is looking at guitars and can't decide between one for £580 or one for £600! He does work hard and as I said, he pays for everything but I sometimes think he can be really incensitive.
