Hi Andrea,

Dont worry, Forewarned etc!

I was offered gas and air, but as I had been told it was just 'a little uncomfortable', I declined - didnt want to look a woos (?). Once I realised it was a bit more than uncomfortable, I didnt think to ask for the gas and air.
So if you get the chance, go for it
Cos you now think its gonna be horrendus (sorry, cant spell today  ) it will actually be quite good, cos it's definately not gonna be as bad as you think. Does that make sense?

Joo and Buffy's ideas are excellent

sigmoid...

Postby angel_on_fire » Tue Apr 18, 2006 2:20 pm

Hi everyone

Hope I didnt scare anybody off with my horror story - it was horrible but well worth it (if they find anything that is!)

I think the advice about distracting yourself is a very good idea - i had a nice nursey who held my hand when they realised it wasnt going to be a quick and easy job! it is amazing the difference human touch makes in lowering pain levels - i dont know if that is distraction or something else but it helps whatever the reason :D

I have to wait a few weeks for results (and im pretty sure they wont find anything as in all my other tests!) so will keep u posted

 I can cope with everything else they throw at me at the dentists except pulling teeth, THEN I have to have a hand to hold!!! Last time it was an unexpected (for me) extraction and I suddenly went into a panic attack so hubby came in to do the hand holding (on his knee like he was proposing!!) but my bra felt soooooooo tight (you know those wired uplift jobby's girls?) so I said '"excuse me Brad" (lush young dentist by the way!!!) and sat up and 'popped' my bra undone!!!!!   Ha ha ha ha!!!! But it certainly helped me and the tooth came out sweet as a nut!!!!!!

Likewise with anesthetic, I like to hold a hand as I go to sleep, less lonely that way!!! I was waiting for the 'jab' once and there were all these peeps busy around my trolley and I felt like a 'number' so I said 'Helloooooooo' and they almost jumped cos they were so wrapped up in what they were doing they'd forgotten I was human!!! They were very good after tho!!!

I AM that woman you avoid in the queue!!!!

Hi all

I have had FM for 20 years (diagnosed when I was 16) and have always coped with it well. However, ive been unwell for a while now with things ranging from severe joint pain (nothing like usual FM pain), nausea, abdominal pain, diarrohea, mucus in stools etc. Yesterday I had an upper endoscopy (probably the single most worse thing I have ever had in my life) which was all clear. However, my doctor and the specialist yesterday, both think I have Ulcerative Colitis, a form of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (not to be confused with IBS). I have now been booked in for a sigmoidoscopy / colonoscopy to confirm either way.

After reading your posts, I am really worried now about having one. I know that FM sufferers pain thresholds are not quite as good as non sufferers and am worried how I will cope with it. I have been told that I will have Entinox (gas and air), but have never had gas and air before, so not sure how I will feel with that (I note some people say it makes them sick!).

I know I have to have one to make a diagnosis one way or another, but I am really nervous. Any advice please?

Sam
