MRI SCAN

Postby mlou » Tue Sep 04, 2012 4:52 pm

Hi everyone I have something on my mind at the moment and could do with some advice. When I was 10 I had Meningitis very badly and was lucky to pull through, it has effected my life right through school to adult life. Sometime after I'd returned home from being in hospital I was supposed to go to The John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for an MRI Scan. My Mum had difficulty getting me to attend the appointment and I didn't go, I think after being so ill I was just scared 'well that's what my Mum said' I mentioned this to the Consultant who diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia around a year ago I told her about me having Meningitis and asked if I could be referred to have an MRI Scan, just out of curiosity really and peace of mind it's always been in the back of my mind that there could be something else wrong. She felt it wouldn't be necessary  I have read some stories of people that have had meningitis and later in life got MS, some of the symptoms tend to be the same as Fibromyalgia/M.E which I also have I was diagnosed 3 years ago but had fatigue/tiredness symptoms for years. Nothing would probably show up if I had one and it's down to Firomyalgia/M.E what I have. Do you think it would be worth seeing my G.P and stating I feel I should have one?

i had a mri to rule other things out befor i got diagnosed with fm,

You've nothing to lose by asking about one. And you never know, your GP might agree to send you for one :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing:

Today I took a trip to the Doctors and mentioned this to the G.P she was very nice and explained that she couldn't just referre me for an MRI Scan it has to go through a Specialist Consultant firstly. Apparently there has to be good reasons etc etc to have the scan. She is going to go back 20 years ago through my notes when I had the Meningitis and see why I was asked to go for the MRI Scan and see if there is enough hard evidence to see if it would be worth me having one. I will wait to hear now to see what my notes have to say :-? How was it for you masonbarms getting a referral :?: thanks for your comments everyone :-D x

hi guys

Had my Neurology appointment this afternoon and after getting myself worked up 'like I tend to do with things like this'' I had no need to. I got what I went for he is reffering me for an MRI Scan, I should have an appointment within the next 3-4 weeks :-D. It was a bit of a rushed appointment though I have to say, I didn't really get to say much he just jotted down my meds, asked me what my symptoms are, and tested my reflexes which were fine I was in and out within 5 minutes. I'm relieved I'm having the MRI, nothing may show up but if that's the case at least I will know. That's one hurdle over with next week I have my 1st appointment at the Pain Clinic, thank you everyone for your kind comments :-D x
