Hi There.... I think most of us must have mental illness... I think I must be mentally worn out with this Fibro:)
When I first diagnosed the Rheumatologist said, that my diagnosis was Fibromyalgia in the setting of Anxiety!!

I questioned the Rheumatologist a few weeks later after his secretary wrote to my GP and sent me a copy of his
conclusions as well... My question to him was and still is, does Fibro make you Anxious ? or do we make ourselves
Anxious because we have Fibro? He didn't answer that question, so I asked him about that and he chooses not to
speak about it....So in all honesty I really do believe that GPs Specialists just think that we are actually just manic
about our health and the term Fibromyalgia is a very good label for us all....Half the medical profession say that it
is a real illness syndrome and the rest don't know or don't believe in a diagnosis of Fibro...in which case, *where*
does it leave us all?? My last word to the Rheumatologist was, if you don't know as to what really causes what, then
why did he put that I was anxious? I just went on to say that I am probably coming across as Anxious as I have all
these symptoms and didn't know what it was all about and why I had been suffering for so long.....numb hands, fingers
feet, aching arms and legs, IBS, balance problems, aching eyes at times, panic attacks but to name a few....so of course like us
all when we all have these symptoms, no wonder we are going mad in the head, and long for an answer, so when they give it
as Fibro... then we get to hear that Fibro is just a myth condition that doesn't really make sense....so naturally we all
become more anxious as we are not taken seriously.... :yikes:

Depression and Anxiety. And Aspergers if you count that as MI - some people seem to.

I reckon I have other MI's but psychiatrist I saw doesn't think so. He only spoke to me for half an hour though.

Depression, anxiety, bpd, self harm. Having said that, no s/h since Fibro symptoms started. And before Fibro started I was well enough to cope without antid's.

When my ex-employer sent me for an assessment they doctor said to work on managing the depression and I'd be ok because depression can give you pain. My reply was that if I wasn't in pain all the time I had no reason to be depressed. Ah, why is it so hard to understand?

Have you asked your GP is there is another anti~d that you could take alongside the Nortriptyline?? Quite a few of us take take 2 types, one to help with the sleep and pain side of things, and another to help with our various mental health.

I've had depression on and off for probably about 15 years now! Only really took control of it and accepted it about 2.5 years ago when I realised I was planning how to end it all bit by bit (tidying up finances, writing a will...) self-harming, drinking too much and abusing my painkillers and that all felt perfectly normal... a colleague remarked without knowing what was going on 'that anyone with suicidal thoughts is unbalanced' and along with an article I read on a friends blog I finally saw my gp, got diagnosed with moderate to severe clinical depression and moderate anxiety, 18 months of citalopram and REBT (a type of CBT) and lots of mindfulness and rebuilding my life, having really hit rock bottom.

The anxiety had came much later - after 6 months of going back and forth to the gp with tiredness and palpitations and picking up every bug going they said I was probably a little bit anxious or low in mood - nope I had a tumour the size of a satsuma growing next to my heart. They managed to remove it but the surgery was hideous requiring major blood loss and a long, slow recovery- I wonder if this has played a part in exacerbating the fibro now.. I still get anxious when anything stress me out and struggle from time to time and I suppose I have accepted this is part of me now. I wonder too how much is genetic's as have close family members all with psych 'issues'.

I'm now on amitriptyline - prescribed to help with sleeping and also perk me up - occ health thought I was depressed again but think was side effects of gabapentin and the fact I am in constant pain and worried about work - only had 6 weeks and felt like had gone back 3 years as suicidal and depressive thoughts come flooding back but mostly gone now its out of my system.
Waiting for official diagnosis but it all makes sense now..its not in my head..it was always real..

I have suffered acute anxiety with regular panic attacks and chronic depression for over 30 years and have had pain for the same length of time and it was only 2011 when I was diagnosed with Fibro, prior to that I was told time and again that it was my nerves causing the pain and tiredness. I truely thought i was a hypochondriac till i found this site and realised that so many others suffer the same symptoms as me and surely we cannot all be mad. xx

Thank you for posting. I've had severe depression and anxiety which is slowly getting treated but I too feel like I'm always unwell. I feel so fatigued - I tell the doc that and they just say oh it's depression but I know it's more than that. I'm needing to lie down after hanging the washing out. I'm currently taking clomipramine but he wants to add a mood stabiliser. Even typing this message on my phone has left my hand and wrist aching :(. I hope we can offer support to Each other tho x
