TMI but I need to ask :(

Hi all,

This is horrible but I have been suffering with it for a couple of years but recently it has become a bigger problem.

I have IBS, which I am sure lots and lots of you have too. I go through spells where I have diarrhoea daily (up to 15 times a day on a bad day) for a few weeks and then I become constipated. I have always had some bleeding with it on occasion but in the past 6 weeks, every time I pass a stool (which is probably every 3 days at the moment, very constipated, nothing helping), I bleed. Its not just a streak on the paper either. The water in the bowl is red and I have lots on the paper. It is very bright so I know it is not old blood.

Does anyone else get blood after a bowel movement? Sorry to be so graphic but I need to ask. I am seeing the GP on Friday after a clear MRI (was looking for MS).

Thanks :)

I do periodically Jem, but mine is due to a tiny rectal tear that reopens periodically, depending on how things are moving     GP did the unpleasant checking and spotted it immediately

You're doing the right thing asking your GP about it. Make sure you tell them about the constipation as well, there may be something that you can be given to make passing things a little less eyewatering.

I think that might be it with me too to be honest. I am on codeine which was prescribed primarily for pain but also for constipation. Now that I am having problems I have had to go back to the paracetamol and ibuprofen if my tummy feels like it can take it. I am going to speak to him about pregabalin as a trial. I have tried the anti-depressants and they didn't work for me. Tried them for months too (at least 6) and I just got fat! :(
Might ask about the norotryptiline (spelling?) as they are not as problematic as ami's so the neuro said.
Thanks for the reply Flup :)

No probs Jem, I was on nortriptyline up to the start of the year and I found them much better than amis. Only swapped to dosulepin because my dosage had got to the point where it wasn't really helping and each time I increased it, it was making my mouth drier and drier, but I was up at 80mg by then.

The pregbalin can help, so it's worth asking about whether it could be suitable for you to try :blowkiss: :blowkiss: :blowkiss:

If your GP thinks it could be a tear, be prepared for one of those     examinations to see if it is    Just think happy thoughts in a warm and comfortable place and leave your dignity at home for this appt

Well done for facing up to your bowel problems, the hardest part is admitting that we have problems 'down there'.

I too have problems with urgency to poo and almost always have blood on the tissue paper.

After plucking up the nerve to see my GP and having the dreaded examination I was referred to the specialist and after yet another of 'those examinations' at the hospital I now have to have the camera :yikes:

After doing a little research there seams to be so many things that can cause these symtoms so I for one am just going to focus on my next appointment and not scare my self silly Googling what might be wrong.

Hope everthing turns out for you ok.

Lola xx

:goodluck1: with the docs, they will be able to help with the constipation and look into why you have blood, it could be a pile causing the bleed. They might want to do some tests with a camera.? Good luck.
