Dizzy - Balance Uneasy Feelings

Postby Tel1 » Tue May 14, 2013 8:40 pm

Hi All.... yep it's me again with something that I haven't really mentioned before about what I experience, so just *wondered* if
any of you get the same... When I leave the house and lets say I am going to a shop or something, when I get in there, I FEEL as
though I am swaying a bit... Earlier on today I was at the checkout and put my card in the machine to pay and I kind of had to
hold on to the counter as though I was going to loose balance....It is worrying me really because I say to myself.. IS this the Fibro doing this, or have a got something wrong with me brain?? I have read that people with Fibro get this as part of the condition, but do they
really? perhaps you can let me know if any of you people get this.

From October last year I had 5 lots of blood tests to rule out SO many things, I saw a Neurologist who looked deep into my eyes and did tests, I had a head CT scan, Xrays to death:)) and after everything they said in December that is was probably Fibro, and when I saw the rheumatologist this March, he did all the other tests and questions and said yes you have fibro without a doubt... so that was that..

The worrying part about Fibro is that it seems to have a never ending list of symptoms, but mine are mainly, the tiredness, the aches and pains in arms, between shoulders puffy hands, and sometimes a aching in my chest which use to send alarm bells to my head ( stroke heart attack ) :yikes: but the rheumatologist said some people with Fibro get that. I also get a sensation down one side of me at times as though I have had a stroke!! but having been to the A&E and sent to Acute Stroke wards etc, then have said 3 times that I haven't had one. which is GOOD: but all the same I HAD to get it checked.....Anyway if any of you get what I described about the balance feelings, I would be please to hear what you have to say. :-D

I've moved you into here with you asking about a potentially associated problem as it's a more suitable board for it.

I have balance problems, they've been with me since Day One as they were one of my first symptoms to appear and initially lead to me being dx'd and treated for a completely different problem as FM is really good at mimicking other health problems.

The symptoms of FM are incredibly extensive and some of us may suffer with some of them, whilst others may have a different range affecting them. Dizziness and balance problems can be associated with FM, but they can also be associated with other conditions as well, so whilst what you are experiencing may be due to FM, it might still be wise to see your GP about it, just to be sure there isn't something else at work.

Mine has been attributed to migraines, which are also associated with FM, but during times when I'm more stressed/worried than usual, that also seems to intensify the feelings.

Depending on what the cause of of these sensations is determined as being, there may be things that can help ease them off/make them more manageable for you.

Hmm!:)) I wondered where my message had gone :hit1: LOL:)) Like you say Fluppy, yes it could be something else:(( and that IS my
dread... I just couldn't cope with finding out that there is something *else* going on :yikes:

the Fibro has kind of ruined my life already to a certain degree as I am not the same as I use to be...I was always performing on stage, jetting off here there and everywhere, and now look at me!! When I started to notice the balance issue, I thought to myself, Oh please god, now what is happening :yikes: As I mentioned earlier, I have been kind of checked to death... which I was thankful for, but of course there are still 1000s of other medical things that they could tell me I have, and that does depress me

Oh well, I will just have to keep going and hope to god, it is part of the Fibro..as Fibro alone is a nightmare in itself . x

Life has been changed dramatically for pretty much all of us thanks to FM. PreFM I was also very different, very organised and confident, scooting about so fast that I was often meeting myself in the middle coming backwards, whatever came I would deal with it face on and bounce out of the other side. Now tho, I'm barely a shadow of that person, and because of being unable to work, a lot of the plans and dreams I had are now in the bin.

When different symptoms and things started appearing for me, I seemed to be constantly thinking, wondering and pondering about all the possible alternatives that could be behind them. Unfortunately doing so just made me feel even worse     With some time tho, learning more about the condition and what and how things affect me, I found a more settled kind of aura started to work it's way into things and now, altho I still have some of these kinds of thoughts, they are thankfully nowhere near as intense or frequent. Hopefully as you start to find more of your way thru this you'll find something similar happens for you :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed:

Always get things checked out, I'm very unsteady and it can be down to the meds as well as FM or various other things so you need to speak to your doc.

As Flup has said we are all very different with FM to how we were before, I always took my health for granted and never dreamed I'd be reduced to needing walking aids and electric scooters etc. but we have to look at it as being a change in direction, not a planned one but possibly fulfilling in other ways :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed:

Yes I too suffer wiv the dizzy spells not from day one this is one of the many like most of you that has been added on!!!! Its good to know im not going mad and that it is the fibro. I often wonder in time to come hs many more symptoms crop up ive lost count already. Its a horrible feeling and I feel like im going to faint as well which is a worry especially if im on my own. Ive stopped goingvtovthexdocs about new symptoms cos they are as helpfull as a brick wall and you can tell when your telling them they are not interested in anything you have to say cos they dont understand. And im sure im not the only one in this position!!!.
Anyway my rant out of the way. Hope reading your replys puts your mind at rest.:-)

Yep, these were one of my first, and most prominent (and still are) symptoms. I am in a constant state of imbalance with a feeling of dizziness and not knowing where I am in space, if that makes any sense. Things also 'move' in front of me.........in fact I grabbed hold of a my kitchen worktop the other day because I thought the whole thing was falling over!!! It wasn't, of course, it was just my brain playing tricks again! This has got to such a point now that I am reluctant to leave the house as I feel so unsteady and freaked out by being outside in the 'big wide world'. I cannot stand still unaided now, as I feel so imbalanced and unsteady.

I have been seen by an ENT specialist who confirmed it wis not inner-ear related, and have a brain scan scheduled for next week. This is to rule out any other causes. Once this comes back clear (which my GP is sure it will) then it will be put down to the Fibro or ME that my
GP now thinks I have as well as the Fibro.

If only these doctors could live our lives for a day..........I'm sure they'd take us more seriously!

Hi Tel

I've had that a few times too. I've also had this strange feeling where I'll be walking and then I'll wander off to the side like I can't walk in a straight line. It's almost like when you're taking a picture and you tilt the camera at an angle if that makes sense?

When this happened the first few times I did mention it to my GP and he referred me for some blood tests and MRI's to double check things so would definitely get this checked out. Turned out mine was fibro related and my GP told me not stand up too quickly, walk too quickly and to make sure I eat before taking my meds as that can affect your balance too.

If it happens to me now I just stop and stand still for a few minutes until things "right" themselves again.

Fingers crossed you can get some answers.

I know exactly what you mean, Lou-Lou. I'm like that all the time, so have to concentrate on where I'm putting each foot when I'm walking........otherwise I just stagger off to the left or right. I also can't stand still unaided any more, as I feel so imbalanced and wobbly. (In fact I've recently got back from a very short trip out to take my Dad to the bank, and he insisted on popping into Lidl on the way back to the car. Well, I just couldn't cope, and found myself staggering from pillar to pillar as he wandered around the shop. It was really scary and has made me realise I really do need to have some support aid for when I'm out in public - maybe just a walking stick would do it. I even found walking along a busy pavement a real struggle.)

I find it so hard sometimes to accept that things that specific and severe can be caused by the Fibro, but apparently they can.

Purple dot

It's like you've had one too may isn't it? The times it happened to me I was walking with a friend and kept walking into her and she asked how many vodka's I'd had lol, wouldn't mind except it was 10am lol.

It hasn't happened to me for a fair few weeks now fortunately but there was a time it would happen once or twice a day, not sure why it's not happening as much anymore it's just one of the many mysteries of fibro I guess.

Hope you are home ok now purple dot, it can really freak you out when it happens especially if you feel out of control of your own body.

Yeah this was the first thing I noticed and was diagnosed as Menieres. Now I believe it's part of the fibro. Symptoms pretty much like everyone describes and the reason I started walking with a stick.
