DOES FIBRO CAUSE EYE JPROBLEMS?

Postby imstillme » Tue Aug 20, 2013 7:53 pm

Hi, went for my normal eye test last week. Test seemed to go ok but then got a phone call from the optician to say she was referring me to an eye hospital as my perifery vision appears to be causing problems. Doesn't seem to be causing me any probs! and although she said it was nothing to worry about I can't help be concerned. Has anyone else had this sort of problem and is it a Fibro thing. The rest of me seems to be falling apart is this just another bit. Trying not to be worried about it but can't help it a bit as can't understand why she would be arranging an appointment at an eye hospital rather than refering me to my GP. Please any help with putting this into context would be gratefully received. :-?

Hi imstillme I am unsure if its related to fibro but I too have been referred to the hospital for the same thing. Sending hugs to all, hope this will give you some peace of mind until you get your diagnosis.

Thanks for that, nice to know I'm not alone but not nice that you have to go too. Hope both of us find it is nothing to worry about. Feel as if life is one big rollercoaster since being diagnosed things keep cropping up when least expected. :-)

I have lost most of my peripheral vision but having now been diagnosed with ME I found this article http://www.cfids.org/archives/2001rr/20 ... icle02.asp
It seemed to explain it all. Be warned though if you have peripheral vision issues you need to notify DVLA

Hi
My vision in the left eye has gotten worse since I have had FM symptoms, also have developed a cataract in this eye too. As of yet my GP nor Consultant have mentioned an association between vision loss and FM. The rate at which my vision has deteriorated is scary and I am constantly walking into things.
Hope you all get resolution to your eye probs ASAP and good luck guys.

My vision in both eyes has deteriorated since Fibro was diagnosed. As the eye is held in its place by muscles I guess we shouldn't be surprised that its affected by Fibro.

Thanks SuzyVB and all the others who have answered my post. I read the information, understood some but not all, and it would seem that eyesight is just another area Fibro messes with our lives. As I said I haven't noticed anything and was totally unprepared for the optician and reading your answers I can count myself lucky so far in not having as many problems as most. This forum really is wonderful, so many times I have been able to find answers to problems which seem to arise more and more often so thanks to all members far and wide!

I only notice when the kids think its funny to creep up on me from the side or when steering my wheelchair through unfamiliar doors then I tend to lose knuckle skin ;)

HI there,
My eyesight suddenly went terrible over a period of 6mths, from near perfect distance to severe cataracts, I am not a diabetic, and dont take steroids, so at the grand old age of 55yrs I had cataracts removed from both eyes, the specialist was very concerned, by my rapid decline, but lucky for me I had both done within 3 mth of initial diag of the cataracts, now I am fine again, my eyesight is brilliant, get them done if you can, it does NOT hurt.
the specialist also said my cfs/ME and fibro were a factor of my rapid decline.

My vision deteriorated badly and I had cataracts in both eyes which at 55 was considered young. I have had lens implants and my vision is amazing. It also lifted my spirits too :-D

Does anyone get bad eye fatigue?

My eyes keep going cross eyed and even though I am not tired I seem to get sleepy. I have also noticed I need reading glasses since fibro and thought it was my iPad. I also get white flashes of light in my peripheral sight. I will go opticians soon.
