HELP - scared. Anyone had this symptom

Postby Catwoman81 » Mon Jun 30, 2014 9:18 am

Hi, I am in flare at the moment. Had the scariest symptom ever yesterday. Woke up with severe chest pain, actually thought I was having a heart attack. Went to A&E and had tests including ECG and bloods - the doctor thought it was a muscle spasm caused by my FMS. I'm still a little tender this morning and feel quite worried about it coming back. I'm going to GP later but wonder if anyone else has had this.

I hope I've put this is right place.

Thanks for the help

I've had this quite often the first 3 times I was ambulances into hospital as frightened me so much. I now don't panic quite as much and also it seems to be a muscle or nerve that gets trapped in my neck that sets it off, so when I feel it coming on my other half manipulates my shoulders/neck and can feel where the knots are, once he releases them its like a huge weight gets lifted off my chest. Not 100% sure what causes it I have hyper mobility as well so do think something slips out of place, had mri scan nothing can be found. Just grateful oh can sort it and also have to learn not to panic otherwise though symptoms aggravate everything else. As long as you have had all checks with doctor etc its probably just muscles I'm afraid :(

I have just had loads of tests, bloods, ultrasounds etc for a stabbing pain in my right side that takes my breath away.
If it had been on the left I would have thought it was a heart attack too.
They can't find any reason for it so have just said its FM.
But it is still there and still makes me gasp in pain and feel very sick, I had my gall bladder out 18 months ago so they know it's not that. P
Don't you just wish there was one central point where all of our symptoms could be logged, checked and reasoned out?
I do get very fed up with everything being out down to FM.

at lease we know now it's not our hearts xxx

I get this too and was told by my asthma nurse, it is crippling at times, had a bad night last night with pains all over including the chest wall pains , hate the pains like this as i get little sleep and the following day the pains elsewhere are bad. Suffering but will keep going.

Hope they can resolve the problem for you

There is a condition that is often associated with FM that can give rise to symptoms that are similar to what you have described. It is an inflammation of the cartilage in and around the sternum and ribcage area. If you clicky on this linky it will tell you more about Costochondritis.

To have things investigated, esp with this being something that made you :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: seeing your GP will be what you need to do.

I periodically get a strong pain that goes from the side of my ribs, from underneath my left arm mostly, sending shooting pains into my left breast. I first notice it after I'd had a fall, a common event unfortunately, but then it started reoccurring.

I went to see my GP on a Friday and by the following Tuesday I'd been for a mammogram and had a consultation with a breast specialist. Big relief when I was told the pain was nothing serious, apparently it was Fibro in a muscle group down the back into the sides called 'lats' for short.

I still get it, it's not nice to deal with until it settles down, but I'm glad the checks were done as I don't need to worry about the cause cause the pain being sinister.

My GP has now said she wants to check for something else going on in my life. I really feel frustrated. It's like my FM must have a psych cause - but does it? I'm so confused and feel so alone :(

Yes, this has happened to me 3 times.
It is very scary. It is part of the fibro.

I first had this symptom 2yrs ago. I had mega pain in my chest, up into my left jaw, down my left arm, through to my back. I was terrified, my son was terrified. But I was tested my the paramedics & it wasn't a heart attack. My doc days its a major nerve yhat serves the upper chest, arms, jaws & face.

I have asthma and so I know how difficult it is when you can't get a breath. But there's a difference between asthma attacks and this chest oain. I get a heart acan every other year as I have scleroderma and it atracjs the tissue around my organs. Also have a liver scan every year for both scleroderma and pbc. I ts ver scary indeed. God bless. :-) :-)

I'm the same, i constantly feel small sharp pains in my chest which i ignore but twice now i have had attacks that begin very suddenly n feels very deep an achy pulsating pain that goes down my left arm into my hand around my chest, shoulder n neck ... I'm currently having tests but apart from pulse at 128 and feeling clammy n faint ecgs are fine ... very frightening n as soon as paramedics know i have fibromyalgia they assume I'm exaggerating the pain ... more needs to be known about our illness ... we do not ask for this level of pain

i HAVE HAD THIS PLUS MOST OF THE PAIN AS DESCRIBED IN THE OTHER REPLIES. My neighbour also has FM she came by whilst I was suffering one of those excruciating pains in my left side - in the rib area - that one seems to squeeze all the air out of me and I gasp for breath - she went home and brought back a pump containing ARNICA GEL. We massaged it into the area and MAGIC the pain went away. I had not used this before but do now. I use this everywhere I can reach when I have a flare up.

ARNICA GEL available in 1 litre (and less) pumps for £26 plus p&p from the home shopping network QVC. Seems there's a lot more to natural remedies than the health service know about. I will tell my rheumatologist and my neurologist next time I see them for a check-up.
