clicking jaws

Postby debs67 » Thu Dec 18, 2014 5:47 pm

Whenever I eat food or open my mouth too far my jaws click and it is quite loud on times. Is this associated with fibro or arthritis related. It can be painful on times and sometimes embarrassing when out eating with friends. Any help would be grateful

Have had this for many years but not sure if it is related to either fibro or arthritis. :teddy-bear:

The best thing to do is get it checked with your dentist they will be able to tell you.

Many fibro's like myself have a condition that effects the jaw called TMJ, lots of info on this on the search bar above.

As suggested you could have TMJ.

I have had this for years Lots of people with or without fibro have it. You should see your dentist as it can sometimes be easily corrected with mouth guards. If your jaw happens to lock you should see a dentist immediately. Do not force your jaw, I actually fractured mine by trying to force it open.

I've had this since my late teens pre fibro. I believe its tmj and I have read that thats its related to fibro.

My husband has had this for several years but it doesn't seem to cause him any pain. He doesn't have Fibro. Sometimes it's just the type of jaw you have I think and can possibly be inherited, as my husbands mother has it as well.

I wonder whether it can be caused by grinding you teeth in your sleep. When I was a kid the dentist said I was doing this after he saw my molars. I don't remember doing it but apparently you can, in your sleep.
