When i was diagnosed all those years ago (i had been complaining of chest pain and heart racing which they said was nerves ok) - anyway seemingly i have Mytral Valve Prolapse and really need surgery, but as i havethis illness they wont go the route of the operation.

That's nuts - whyever not ?? Have they stated exactly why they won't do the surgery ???

Surely if you have a prolapsed valve only surgical intervention will sort it out ???

We need an expert here to advise on this one - let's hope someone reads your post.

I had the symptoms you described and I spent a year on betablockers had a 24-hr blood pressure - that's okay - and 24hr-ECG (still waiting for the results to be sent back from the Brompton Hosp. London where they were sent). Not on any meds for heart - still get occasions of palpitations/missed beats but NOTHING AT ALL like last year - I was so ill, but then an awful lot had gone on in my life over the preceeding 12 months so the conclusion was really bad stress, anxiety etc. Now I just pop a 2mg Valium and it helps calm me down - not a lot as its such a small dose but just enough to take the 'edge' off.

Hi

Yes it is Mytral Valve Prolapse, but they say i hae had it since i was born, i say no i got it when i took ill.
Anyway been to see the Heart Spec, and he said if you have had it all this time you can keep it a bit longer, wouldnt do you any good to come in here with low immunity and ME.
We will wait for a while and see if your health improves and or you get stronger.
(This was after influenza and Bronchitis one after the other).
Our hospital here is under review for MRSA, so to be honest unless its necessary to your health, ie immediate health they are not doing operations for my problem.
I have had two specialists as i asked for a second opinion - he said the same.
I have had a echo/ulta scan and saw theproblem for myself one of the flaps turns up and leaves a wee space in the middle of the valve which can cause backflow with illness.

Dont worry i keep on at them!!!
