Cystitis

Postby JoJoLee » Tue May 05, 2009 8:58 am

God I am fed up :( Im starting with my 3rd cystitis episode in about 4 months. It's kept me off work a couple of times and sometimes has me writhing on the bathroom floor. I am sick of it - does anyone else get it regularly, and if so what do you do about it? Is it meant to be part of FM? and why dont they address that when you are diagnosed, or is it only the lucky few that get smitten with the damn thing? Im on a late shift tonight (solo) and will be darting to loos all over the blummin hospital, along with the usual pre-evening FM agonies :? To make it worse I am on a 3 day course ( all day) after today and how embarassing will that be when I have to keep going out the room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've only had cystitis once, and that was awful, so know how you're feeling :hugs:

Make sure you take lots of water and drink it instead of tea or coffee. Yep, you'll still run to loo, but it will help 'flush' it out your system.

My daughter gets frequent UTI's (family tendency) so she drinks cranberry juice a lot. I can't stand the stuff, but it does help her to not get UTI's as often.

It could be that the combo of meds you're on is one of the culprits for such frequent infections, though there is oten a genetic disposition, plus FM sufferer's do tend to get irritable bladders easily as well as IBS. If you're not having any pain relief during the day, take some paracetamol, though I suspect you're already on a cocktail of painkillers?

Hpe this helps and it clears up quickly xx

Hi Everyone.

I've had cystitis four times in the last year and I have never had a problem before. So decided it was connected to the fibro which is why I'm looking on here.

So how do you stop the re-occurring problem?

Well as its likely to be FM related I am going to aggravate my consultant in pain management team or my GP - less luck there no doubt cos all they do is referrals - next it will be well just pop along to the urology clinic!!! :? :? :?

They say Cranberry juice can help, but what they dont tell you is if you drink too much it irritates the bladder itself.
I used to get c but i ended up making up drinks of diluted orange juice and a teaspoonfull of bicarb soda - let it fizz and then drink it in one.
It calms the bladder and is bette than antibiotics.
If you are on medication or unwell then ask Dr if its ok to do that - i had an irritable bladder years ago and it was the specialist that suggested i do that instead of all the tablets.
Its worth a go
