I damaged a disk at the bottom of my back about 18 years ago and could'nt walk for 2 weeks, since then from time to time it's like it slips and presses on the sciatic nerves on the right side. But lately it's like it's with me all the time. I have OA, the sort that causes flares a bit like RA but have never had a MRI. Higher up I have pain just below my shoulder blades and on my spine between them. My dr is'nt quick to refer to a specialist, it took him 20 years to send me to a rhuemi  . I think if the bottom of my spine could be sorted out walking would be better so long as the op did'nt paralize (s) me.Not sure I could take that risk!

I have the Osteo-arthritis as well... forgot to include that.

I have gaps in my cocix (sp) and in the joint of my right hip that my doc thinks he could get his finger into.
The right side of the cocix has eroded away as well.. that could be interesting!!

After years of complaining about my lower back, its agony now, full blown sciatica when i walk, pain tingling numbness down leg/foot. I saw a ortho on saturday, he feels i DO have wear and tear of my discs, waiting an MRI.

Looks like we all have back problems then!!!! What a surprise. Its a bit like the chicken and the egg though dont you think??/ What came first? I too have prolapsed discs in the thoracic spine and two missing altogether in the lumbar spine as well a an extra bone connected to my cocyx. Is been a case of put up and shut up for such a long time now. Years ago I too collapsed was unable to walk, ended up in a wheeel chair then on crutches, it took 18months to walk unaided again. During that period I went in ozzy as a day patient for some deep manipulation and cortizone and came out of the anaesthetic paraylised!!! I was terrified and kept telling the nurses I was unable to feel my legs and they poo pood it until I attempted to get out of the bed and crashed to the floor. Eventually the surgeon came to see me and said he;d been performing the same procedure for a long time and had never come across what happened to me. That was the end of that!!!! Amazing. I nagged and nagged for an explanation but never recieved one; another fine example of the put up and shut up mentality of my consultant compounded by my gp at the time. It would be interesting to find out how many of us have spinal probelms though wouldnt it?

Take care; Drapsey xx

My Back pain seems to be getting worse.
3 days running i cant move out of bed without squealing i have to use the TENS machine to get any relive, only trouble is that as soon as i stop the machine, i start to feel the pain again.

Lucky my Tens is a mobile one so i can walk a little with it still in use.
Iam trying to move it as i dont want to stiffen up.

I have spondylolisthesis, cervical spondylosis, and have had 2 slipped discs in the past (at the same time).

There is a saying 'Once you have a back, you always have a back' Probably very true.

I have been bedridden for 3months in the past, don't want it to come back again - but once you have a slipped disc and they see it on MRI, you get all the pain relief you want - I even got morphine. I have similar pain due to the fibro my knees, hips and thighs are agony - have I been offered strong pain relief- whaddya think!

I did read something somewhere about a woman who went to her doctor with bad pain and get palmed off with co-codamol (I can eat those like sweeties). Once she was diagnosed with cancer - she could have all the pain relief she wanted. Her level of pain hadn't changed, but others perception of her pain had. Kinda sounds familiar to me!
Sending you love and light

Back problems, plus neck problems here as well. Result of a car acident that left me with a dislodged and fractured vertebrae - C6. Had to have a fusion op to C5 and C7, plus bone graft, a month on skull traction and 6 months in various rigid jackets and collars. Has left me with restricted neck movement, constant pins and needles plus numbness in both arms/hands, pain shooting up and down my spine, into my hips and legs. It's been blamed for the onset of FM by most Drs I've seen. Makes walking the dog great fun when I'm in full flare-up mode, like the past couple of months

If your dog doesn't like someone, then you probably shouldn't either

Yeah Shaz, it really does hurt, but the main worry is what happens when the bone wears away totally?

My back worries me so much, but it isn't helped by the fact I am trying to lose weight but without exercise I can't, but with the state of my back I can't do exercise. It's a proper no win situation.

I know one day it will put me in a wheelchair, and I fear with the way it has been recently that day is drawing closer and closer, but I am prepared for it I guess.

My 2 top vertabrae are fused together allways have been, the doc called this early degenetive disease of cervical spine. Does this mean i have arthritis? I have a lot of wear and tear around the joint and constant muscle spasms in my neck. :yikes:
Hi any one I have a preliminary diagnosis of chronic widespread pain syndrome, whatever that is but g.p. is convinced its F.M. Sending out good vibes to all . x

Hi Im a Newbie, :?
I fell onto my back over 30 yrs ago. when osteopath worked on my back 3yrs ago it brought all the pain & the memories flooding back. The MRI ( which i only got after bursting into tears in GP's office, when i went,4th time, about urine retention) showed bulging disc & dengerative disc disease in lower spine. My coccyx burns constantly. helped now with all the pain meds, It must all be linked somewhere don't you think :?:
