yeh i wondered what the difference is - my mate has ME and when i tell her my symptoms they are nearly identical to hers but she had viral infection many years ago which triggered her ME, when i read symptoms of CFS also sounds like me - are ME and CFS one and the same ???

why do there appear to be 3 different conditions with nearly all same symptoms but called different things?

CFS/ME is the name used by the NHS, although far too many people in the UK are given this diagnosis because they have chronic fatigue, when they probably don't have ME and may have a number of other things.

Hi guys,
I have Fibro and ME. The fibro is bad enough on it's own, with the ME as well i am housebound and bedbound for days.
I know that some people say that CFS and ME are different, but i think they are basically the same, either way it's very debilitating!!
Good luck to all you guys out there who have both like me.

Yes, I have had severe M.E. for 22 years in addition to fibro.

I'm so fed up with the lack of biomedical research and treatment, all the psychobabble we are offered, and the attitude of the medical profession that this devastating neurological illness is somehow all the patient's fault.

Isn't chronic fatigue something that is similar to fibro but me is something caused by a virus that causes system wide issues and in fact, ME and CFS aren't the same thing but are just lumped together?

Its to confusing for me, I don't know whether I have them both, I do know I am in a lot of pain but the fatigue flare ups I get can be worse than the pain flare ups and god knows to be honest. It hurts, its knackering and I wanna go to bed!

For a long time I was convinced I had ME as my mum had it and I had all the same symptoms as her.

Needless to say I was surprised when I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia instead as I thought that was a much more serious condition.

It was found that I had 17 of the 18 sore spots and the pain progressed a lot since diagnosis but there is still that doubt that I have ME instead.

This wouldn't matter to me so much but I take medications for Fibro (duloxetine for instance) that may be ineffective if I had ME.

Or may be I just think about things to much. :)

Hi
I got dx with ME just over two years ago and got additional fibro dx two weeks ago, the doc says the can sometime go hand in hand! nice of them is it lol

I find there are many symptoms the same, but the one thing that I see is different is that in ME if you exercise it makes it worse and can really make my symptoms increase a load. In fibro they advise low level excercise to help the symptoms, thats what all the leaflets and my docs have said, but because i have ME as well I cannot do the low level exercise, so im stuck between a rock and a hard place!!

I have read over all the leaflets and so pace myself with the ME and for exercise I do swimming when I can manage it because I find the water taking my weight make it alot easier on me, but even that is something I have to do very carefully and not do it when the ME fatigue is not at its worse,

In general like I said earlier they have alot of similar symptoms, but the main difference I can see if ME causes a more fatigue problem and the fibro causes me more all over pain problems, you get both in both syndromes as far as I can see, but thats how it affects me,

They can both give people different problems and are very annouying way off getting to you just when you arnt expecting it!!

hope you get help with both :)

me too :!:

i was diagnosed with m.e early in 2005 and i had my fibro diagnosis back in september, my gp came out with the word 'crossover' too.

going back on what i have always called my 'm.e diary' i have seen that my outstanding fibro pains (burning feet, deep down bone 'pain' etc) started well over a year ago but i always just assumed it was my m.e getting worse following swine flu.

hiya all

I have fibro and ME, i went too see my neurologist in sept , he was talking in depth about ME and the difference between ME and CFS but to be honest at that precise time of my life i did not absorb the medical jargon as i was in a state due to the fact my sister (only 45) has recently died and the actually hospital i was at for this appt , she worked at , on the same outpaient ward, she had her own room there as she was a rheumotology nurse specialist! so was diffucult day for me!.....However, he has referred me to a ME specialist so waiting for that appt now xx
