serious ibs attack

Postby missusc » Thu Sep 09, 2010 6:59 pm

hi
i am sitting precariously on the sofa, waiting for my next urge for the loo!. this time last night i was on the toilet, trying to empty bowels for an hour stripped down to my bra, shouted hubby as i was going to pass out with pain. i kept having urge exactly like going into labour, biting a towel. hubby eventually called paramedic who was lovely gave me gas and air, which i took for an hour and ran out and had to get another, but it would not budge and pain was still scoring 10. paramedic eventually called an ambulance, who at first were reluctant to take me and i was reluctant to let go of gas and air.

eventually paramedic worried causing internal probs so at last was given morphine and gas and air took to hospital, where because it was busy i was in the corridor, gas and air wearing off, just had morphine which was still not taking initial pain, but was told would stop me from moving bowels if i have more, which to be fair, they were right.

four hours later, still not seen by anyone, hubby helped me to toilet wear i screamed, like i've never screamed before and got some relief at last, but without the morphine i would have just gone into shock with pain.

i was having a bad flare, which has lasted longer than most and because of memory loss, had not realised on full amount of meds for months and could not even remember last time opened bowels  . i have been concentrating on keeping on top of pain, forgot how the painkillers were constipating me

now racked with pain everywhere and i mean everywhere, i have hit an all time embarassing low, taking some laxatives and seeing doc tommorrow, if i can get in, hope someone can learn from my experience would not wish that on anyone :needhug:

Missusc soooo sorry to hear your news and hope things improve quickly for you. It is a lesson for us all to take note of, as at times everyday things get forgotten till they jump up and bite you on the bum. Take care and as I said hope you feel better soon :hugs: :hugs:

Hi
I know what you are going through as the same happens to me.
I have crohns and ibs and at the mo the ibs is playing me up. I have been taken into hospital a few times now as i have been unable to go to the loo and the stabbing pains.

The bowel specialist thinks it could be down to all the meds i am on.
I have to take laxatives every day to stop me blocking up again so maybe you should try them.
i do still keep getting blocked at times but at least most of the time i can go without the pain.

i was/am in the same boat took a suppository on 2 consequetive days last week.

they are brilliant just lay on bed and you go within half an hour.

the trouble was hadn't been since - was goig to get some laxatives but forgot.

have been eating just fruit and treied clear fluids as had sick bug also last week then just fruit and veg.

had pains in groin and under right ribs thinking it was gallbladder or hernia but gp just said it was fibro again...

my movements were still very hard (sorry :   : ) no matter how much i drank (gallons of applie juice) or ate healthily,.

was just thinking of cod liver oil but didn't have any so put some olive oil in my glass of apple juice and sorry to be so clear but,

i can't remember the last time i went that easily -----------------ah the relief. :!: :!: :!:

good luck with yourself. :hugs:

I rarely get constipation wtih my IBS, I just get the pain and the diarrhoea and the pain, is like being in labour.

I be;ieve there was a study done or something and apparently, women with IBS cope better with giving birth because they are already used to a similar pain!!!!!!!!!! How about that?

Feeling for you!
