Hi all this is very interesting.
I have had fm for just under 2 yrs and its definately getting worse. One of my first symptons was ear problems and vertigo with migraines and vomiting, back of my scalp used to burn and swell, the got swine flu and had reaction to tamiflu then rash all over, then arthritic type pains, then numbness and tingling. When i get a flare my ears and neck goes i can click my neck in and out and have to massage it and you can feel the head radiating down my spine by touch. my hair is falling out, have sore eyes and double vision.get bad pains in arms and legs and bottom of spine like nerve pain and collapsed near xmas time as couldnt feel anything from the hip down to my toes. the pain was horrendous and ended up in a and e who said it was fibro making my back ache worse, Anyhoo just had my thyroid done as doc concerned with hair loss and burning feeling and eye problems. Should i mention the neck pain again, could this be dystonia. I thought dystonia was when you cant speak and get bad ticks.
Confused yet i am .
any advvie pkease.

I have both and have been trawling through the internet to find further information, I have found alot of information about Hypothyroidism being a key to Fibro but not Hyperthyroid, I would love to hear about anyone having a thyriod disfunction generally, but it would mean alot if you could reply.

Many Thanks

Hello,

I have Graves' disease and fibromyalgia. I was diagnosed with Graves' over 2 years ago, put on carbimazole and now the treatment has discontinued and all my blood test results have been normal for a while.
But, shortly after starting my carbimazole treatment, I experienced severe fatigue and aches and pains everywhere. I also noticed numbness and tingling in my left arm & leg, to which to this day, not one of the specialists can explain. The endocrinologist denies that my symptoms could be thyroid-related, and after being referred to too many specialists to mention and having undergone a plethora of tests that all came back negative, I've only recently been diagnosed with probable fibro.

As you've mentioned, there does seem to be a link between hypothyroidism and fibro, but not hyperthyroidism and fibro. But perhaps, because we were used to having an overactive thyroid, now it's all allegedly "normal", for us our thyroid is relatively underactive...?
