medication

Postby axbridgejonny » Wed Jan 30, 2013 12:10 am

hi im new to all this even though its took me 8 years to get a answer for my fm in a official diagniosis letter a few months ago... any way... pills hmmmmm they put me on pregabalin and tramadol a while ago. and after hours and hours of research i decided to wean my self off these horrible things and i must say over the last few weeks and apart from the horrible cold weather last week, which i did suffer badly and never went to work i actually feel a bit better and a bit more human the last few days. so i would reccommend to a few people to get of this medication that is making the drug companys richer. i mean how can they treat and give out medicine when they dont even know what causes it or what makes it worse.. dont that worry you???...

i am now getting better results from taking a few codine tablets and a few ibuprofen i and im going to just mix my medication up from one day to the next cause i dont want to be addictive to any thing or be reliant on opium based tablets, i might as well buy methadone of the streets cause it would do a better job...

yeah im in pain but i dont feel so tired and groggy and if i make my self get up and actually go to work (3 days a week cause i refuse to go on benefits) i almost feel human for a few hours a day... i mean i go to the doctors and moan im in pain and im always tired so they give me medicine to make me more tired up to 400mg of tramadol and up to 450mg of pregabalin a day max intake i know... but like thats gone make me feel better init...any way rant over.... i also reccommend epsom salt baths very soothing and with good results...

Hi im also new to this and its god to hear positive progress. I'm also on pregabalin 900mg and co-dyramol 30/500 daily. I must admit i have had no side effects and the don't make me feel wasted like the tramadol did. I drag myself outta bed and try to got to the gym or do some form of exercise a day which has given me better results more than anything. that along with a healhtier diet. I refuse to claim benefits too or stop my work. I mean no disrespect to anyone in that position but if i did i would end up not being able to get out of bed and i would just waste away. I spent a year that way and i refuse to go back to it. I would love to not take anything at all but these drugs seem to be helping me so far. Still in pain but not as much and as you said for a few hours a day i'm normal. A positive attitude is defo a big help with fm. Yes its crap and yes its a struggle and hard work but you have to push yourself every single day. In the long run you do have a better quality of life :-D

:welcome: to the forum axbridgejonny.

Sorry to hear it has taken so long for you get a dx, sadly it's not an unusual occurrence :( :(

It's good to hear that you are finding suitable ways for you to manage your condition. When it comes to weaning off meds, irrespective of what it is and how much research may have been done, we always suggest seeking advice from a suitable healthcare professional before and during the process as even going thru a controlled withdrawal can cause some a lot of unpleasant symptoms and serious problems that may need checking out as things progress. Also, when using meds, even the OTC ones, we again suggest seeking advice about potential interactions between things, incl supplements and herbally/alternative/complmentary treatments, esp if you are intending to take a mix of them.

It can be worrying, esp at first, that the cause of the condition is unknown, which is why the meds and treatments are aimed at easing symptoms. As more research is carried out tho, hopefully things will be discovered as to the cause/reason behind the condition as well as more effective ways to treat it. Whilst I don't doubt that most of us would love to not have to take the things that we do, for some of us, myself included, coming these meds isn't a viable option as, altho they may only take the edge off things, the difference between that and not having the edge taken off can be catastrophic. I know from previous experiences when I wasn't on as many things, nor was I as badly affected, that without my particular cocktail I wouldn't even be able to get out of bed and make it to the bathroom, which is located right next to where I would find myself confined. As I am now, altho very far from being brilliant, with my cocktail I am at least able to get up each day and gently work my way thru a small number of things. Compared to what the other option available to me is, I think sticking to my meds is the best way for me at the moment.

Well done to those who can do without meds and manage to work, but sadly some of us just cant. I have been told I will never work again and so have to survive on my DLA and IB. I would love to be able to go back to work and have the life I had pre FM, holidays, socialising etc. So long may you hang onto it.

As for meds like Fluppy I cant get through the day without my meds and its taken a long time to get to the cocktail I now take

Hi axbridgejonny, I am pleased that you have been able to cope without the stronger pain meds but for some of us this isn't possible. The medication I take (tramadol, gabapentin and amitriptyline) every day. Without these meds I would not be able to cope everyday. Also because of my condition I am going to have to leave work, not because I want to but because I am going to have to. I have worked for many years and have had to face up to the fact that it's no longer possible. :( . I think you need to understand that Fibro affects people differently and the way it is managed can vary a great deal. I wish you all the best and hope that you will continue to manage it in the way you want.
