Postby Tracie » Tue Dec 17, 2013 9:07 pm

Seen my gp this eve,in the new year I am coming off citalopram and starting pregabalin what the specialist give me,reason for doing it in new year is gp been off for three weeks and back in today and Xmas next week and they shut for a couple of days and he' said I could be unwell and wants to monitor me,his concern is that it is not an antidepressant but treats anxiety, hope it helps with fibro and ME because that what it has been given to me for along with anxiety

Hi ya
I don't want to scare you, at the moment i am coming off pregabalin ( been on it 2 years), it has been the worst 2 weeks every, my GP took me off it in 1 go, I had the most horrendous withdrawal, I ended up at the hospital and the doctor there told me it was the same as coming off Heroin, I went back on and I am slowly coming off it but feel so ill, I went back to work yesterday after 2 weeks off, I am not sleeping, and am having cold sweats , stomach cramps, constance diarrhea.I can't eat and find it difficult to drink because of the nausea.
I had to come off it as I had very bad side effects memory problems headaches, trouble concentrating and just thinking straight, The doctor at the memory clinic said I needed to come off it. She also said I was depressed and wants to put me onto Citalopram, the fibro get as all down but I am not sure was depressed, well I am very now :(
I hope I am a one off & other will give you their take on it but please be careful.
I really hope it does work for you, but if you ever have to come off it do it extremely slowly.

Ann :-)

Hi

I was on Citalopram for years for depression, my GP put me onto pregabalin first before she took me off Citalopram, and then introduced Amitryptiline in 5mg doses until my pain was under so much better control. I have gone up and down on both Ami and pregabalin, but I have had nearly 8 months of being able to move most of the day. Nights are still so so, but I think my GP has found the right regime for me. It has taken nearly 15 years to get this far. I have been on morphine, tramadol, co codamol, all of which I came off cold turkey. When I was admitted to hospital for gallbladder pain, the hospital had no pregabalin, and the withdrawal was immediate, never felt so ill in my entire life. I didnt realise how much my life is under control with just a little pill, if I miss a dose my body reminds me. I hope you find pregabalin as useful as I do. Good luck in the new year, and talk to your GP about starting the Pregabalin in smaller doses increasing them as you reduce the Citalopram.

I haven't found any of them any good.

Daily, I'm currently on 600mg Pregabalin, 40mg Citalopram, 60mg Amitriptyline and 400mg Tramadol.

Tramadol helps a little bit with the arthritis in my knees and spine, but not a lot :(
I think most of these drugs are a complete waste of time to be honest.

I don't know why they're taking you off citalopram, I'm taking the maximum dose of both plus tramadol and vitamin D supplements.

It's not the best time to be changing your prescription really with all the holidays. My Doctor is already on holiday and will not be back til the new year. I think your Doctor should wait until the new year before starting adjusting your meds.

Seen gp today, due to mh state he said not wise to mess with meds, waiting to see if the physchatrist will see me for his input not deffo yet he could refuse not seen him since 2010 he said gp could deal with me,then when asked to see him while with mh team he refused, has to ring specialist because she issued pregabalin so waiting a call back,gp said mh could get worse, said can not get any worse I been trying for years and now gp decides he not messing with meds,so still got to suffer in pain till all this is sorted out,he did say specialist needs to find something else.

Manager rang me back said to me it will not be same one I see if the agree to see me,she said that this one could refuse to see me,so I said would like to see someone so I can say what is going on for me,she said they may advise gp then he can manage me,am sure it is not normal to hear and see things and have maid episodes I already have agrophobia,PTSD suicidal ideation, depression impulsive behaviours what can be dangerous, anxiety, self harm, and I am just left to cope.

Tracie, the stuff you have written down, could you copy it and send it in to the MHT with an explanation about things to see if it might help with getting seen by the psychiatrist??

Not sure what else to suggest for you I'm afraid :( :( :( :( :(
