Hello,
I am currently seeing a chiropractor. I started a x2 a week, then X1 a week now it's down to every 10 days. I have found it very helpful.

I've been seeing an osteo for quite some time. I've been to see rheum but my final appt for full diagnosis isn't until May - I thought my problems were just because I'd overdone work.

I do find that it gives me about a weeks respite but I've also turned to acupuncture and will be asking the same question on another thread.

What do they actually do for fibro, and do they need to be a specialist?

My physio has discharged me because he has made me worse :( I'm now looking for a replacement.

Guys I spent 20 years regularly going to private Physio's and Osteopaths, trying everthing to help my body to function better. I convinced myself that without this treatment my symptoms would be worse. The first thing I was asked to do by my Pain Psychologist was look at all the things I did to cope with my pain and then look at the short term and long term effectiveness. He recommended I stop going to the Physio's and Osteopaths. Infact he got me to stop a large amount of treatments including medications, just as an experiement to see how much worse off I would be. Would my body and symptoms actually get worse longterm.

To my surprise I learned that all that money I had paid over those 20 years made no difference whats so ever to my symptoms. I am no better or worse off for not going to get physiotherapy or oestopath treatment. Its been 5 years now since I stopped going and I am just the same without the treatment. Still dealing with the fluctuations of Fibro, regardless. What helped me more was Yoga, Alexander Technique, Graduated Gentle Strength Training Exercise, Relaxation/Meditaton.

My advice, save yourself the money and look to methods that teach you how to look after yourself, than being reliant on others to constantly fix you/put you right.

I'm not saying there isnt a place for Physio and Osteopaths, there is, but its when your dealing with acute pain/muscle issues. Chronic issues especally pain, is life long and needs a completely different approach.

Hope this is of some help

With loving kindness

I don't for one minute think it will 'cure' me, but I want to try it. I have already tried all sorts of other stuff, and I'm not sure why you are both saying I shouldn't try this. If I want to, why not?

I appreciate your warnings but I am still after answers to my questions from a few posts up.

In that case I'm sorry, I am crabby and/or upset so my response wasn't very well thought out :-?

I asked the phsyio at the pain clinic today as I have fibro friends who swear by osteopathy, and the physio thought that from the reaction I'd had, any 'hands on' therapy probably wasn't a good idea! She did however put my mind at rest, as I've been panicking for the last 3 weeks that I wouldn't improve from the state I'm in now. So hopefully things will improve a bit.

Zia,

I can fully understand you wanting to try Oesteopathy, as i wanted to try it.

I used a local guy who I had treatment with 30 years ago, for dizziness, and it helped.

I went along after the GP had diagnosed a trapped nerve in my shoulder, which really he had no answer to

The treatment on my neck over two appointments was good, and I have remained pain free from that trapped nerve, but I knew it was certainly different from fibro.

However I had two treatments for fibro pain on my lower back, sadly that did not work out at all, I ended up with an inflamed sacroiliac joint and sciatica, which was so painful for a couple of weeks, eventually improved with a high dose of Ibuprofen, on the advice on my pharmascist.

I know we all all different and react in different ways, the treatments on my back were so gentle and short in duration, it was hard to believe how inflamed the area got, i can now believe that "hands on" treatment was not for me. :(

I go to a guy who does deep tissue massage down to the muscles. He's been working on my back, neck, shoulders and sciatic for about 8 years now. I go every 4 weeks and I can honestly say it helps me. Mind you, he says he can tell a difference now I'm off work as my muscles aren't so tight.

I think anything is worth tfying as we can't know if something will help till we try it.
