Hey there, i thought id introduce myself to the forum.

My names will im a 26 year old gardener from dorset. My story that led me to this forum started about a year and a half ago. I was feeling constantly tired and finding it hard to cope with work and everyday life. I went to the doctors and they asked for me to have blood tests as there is a history of thyroid problems in my family. They also tested for any other illnesses that would give me similar symptoms. Having got my test results back they were semingly all ok, i found this odd ass my symptoms were still there but i thought better of it and carried on with my life just thinking i was tired and that was that.

I kept having to take weeks off work with flu like symptoms and soar throats and feeling exhausted which my work place didnt really appreciate and led me to be given a warning. This all carried on till 6 weeks ago when i woke one morning and literally could not move, i was quite worried as i didnt really know what was happening to me. I made a doctors appointment that day and on explaining what had happened the doctor gave me the diagnosis of deppression which i was not happy about as i explained to him i didnt feel deppressed and i was in lots of pain and could hardly move. I then went to see another doctor who actually listened to me and tried to help and suggested i may have cfs and made me an apoointment to see a rheumatologist specialst.

I saw the specialist last week and he was great he diagnosed me with fibro which isnt a good thing but it was great for me to actually have a diagnosis that i could say to people this is what i have im not mad and im not making it up!

So now im on another journey not sure where it will lead me or why i have this condition, but ultimately i believe that things happen for a reason and although that reason may not be clear to me now i may look back on my life in years to come and think that im glad that it did.

The specialist has perscribed me dosulepin and tramadol for the pain as well as setraline. Im hoping these will help my symptoms but im not sure how much to expect?

Anyway sorry for such a long story but its actually quite theraputic writting down your experience :chicken-dance:

Thanks Lisa, im glad your all nutters im shure ill fit in fine!

The thing i dont get about fibro is how i can go from being so fit and active and working in a really physical job doing gardening for years to how i am now not being able to walk up the stairs or do the most basic things.

Is there a timespan on how long it takes to recover or is it something im gonna have to learn to live with for the rest of my life? :dunno:

I have spoken to many sufferers who like you have been very active through there life.

One thing with fibro is we really do not know how or why we have it.

There are a few reasons why people may have got fibro and the main ones is trauma to the body EG emotional or physical trauma and this could be from childhood abuse/constant stress/child birth to car accidents...

When your diagnosed the consultant wants all your past history, to this they may piece together where / why fibro has been triggered...

In my case the birth of my second child triggered mine but i was one of these people before that who always stressed and had anxiety and worried. I see mine as my body just couldnt cope with any more tension and cannot relax anymore

There is no cure for fibro BUT you can learn to manage syptoms by pacing and i personaly recommend pain management or CBT to help you... as GP about this

Also many people are different, some can still manage to work a little where as some cannot. Some can live a good life with there limitations and some are housebound

Some people responed to pain killers and some like me do not, i have regular physiotherapy

I also respond to many [chocolate] [chocolate] [chocolate] [chocolate] [chocolate] and a few :wine: :wine: :wine:

Thats great info Lisa thanks very muchly.

I havent been able to go to work for 6 weeks scince this all started and because my job is very active theres no way i can work with my symptoms at the moment. Thats why im fearing im gonna have to give up work and think about doing something less active once i start to feel better.

Like you im a natural worrier and have suffered from anxiety ever scince my sister passed away. I am currently doing cbt which im finding quite usefull and im hoping the meds the specialst has given me will start to help my symptoms.

From my personal experience i feel that if you do go back to a pysical job you will only burn your body out even more severing syptoms so as you said maybe going back to a job with less physical demand will be a good idea :goodluck1:

sorry to hear about your sister :hugs: and doing the CBT will help alot in all ways, mention about the anxiety and fibro if you have not because i feel if you open up and say about everything then they can give you the CBT for everything which will in turn help you to control symptoms. CBT is hard work but if you put all your energies into this then you will come out with a great result...

If you need any help or support with your CBT you can always give me a personal message and i will help you.

I think all this pyscological therapies are amazing and i learnt so much about myself and my body and how it all works and how to control it...

You will be in for a rollercoaster of a ride BUT your starting of in a great way this will help you in your future

The combination of medication and therapy work well... as back up there is always physio and other therapies like accupunture/hydrotherapy/massage/stretching exercises that can help

oh and a good GP!!
