Manchester - advice appreciated

Postby sharonbetty » Mon Sep 19, 2011 3:10 pm

Hi everyone. My physio (and I actually) believe that I have fibromyalgia. Am due to see my GP tomorrow to ask for referral to rheumatologist. Have searched internet and appears that Dr Patrick at North Manchester and Dr Bowden at Fairfield are both recommended. I also understand there is the specialist service at Lever Chambers. Now it may be that my GP is totally clued up and will know exactly where to send me but .. having had M.E. I know that sometimes GPs are less than clued up about certainc conditions! Does anyone have any words of wisdom for me please? For example, can these two rheumatologists refer me to the programme at Lever Chambers (Dr K Adams I believe) or can my GP? Am a bit confused as you can tell! Thank you for your time.

Hi Sharon
:welcome: to the forum  (i have moved your post into here as its your first post)

If your gp agree`s that you have fibro he might not send you to see a Rheumy.

Some Gp`s will only send their patients to see a Rheumy to get a dx once they have a dx the Rheumy will normally discharge you back into the care of your GP who will prescribe the meds you will need.

:goodluck1: at the docs, hope you get some answers soon. :hugs:

Thanks for the reply. I also have arthritis and bursitis so I am hoping that I will be referred to see someone who can look at the "big picture"! Will report back.

Hi Sharonbetty..
I am under Dr K adams at Lever Chambers, he is a fantastic specialist he diagnosed me on the first visit. It seems like he had already worked it out through my medical history and confirmed it through various tests on the day.I wasn't rushed and he made me feel so comfortable He has referred me to a Fybro management group as well. I would highly recommend him.
Good lick :goodluck2:

 Sharonbetty I forgot to ask are you in Bolton,Bury or Manchester? If you are in Bolton obviously you should'nt have a problem seeing Dr Adams, Bury gp should also refer you to Dr Adams if thats who you request and tell them why (he does specialise in FM) Dr Bowden has a good rep, i work for a Bury based Medical practice and have never heard anything bad about him, but i don't think he specialises in FM. My GP refused for 3 months to send me to rheumatology, and sent me to Cardio?? and a neurologist and the Neurologist then informed my GP that i needed to see Dr Adams ASAP, if your gp refuses keep pushing him, you have rights!
Bye the way i meant to write Good Luck on my last post not Good LIck!!!!!

Thank you for your replies and advice. I saw my GP today who agreed that it did sound like I had fibromyalgia and she asked me who I wanted to be referred to! I told her about the Management Programme and Dr Adams - interestingly she had never heard of Lever Chambers in Bolton but was happy to ask her secretary to look up the details and refer me. So ... it looks like I am going where I should be going for help and I will report back. Thanks again.

Hey I'm going to lever chambers too I've heard good things About the team there

My dads wife has RA and sings their praises mainly that they treat you nice and like a person not a number. she had some trouble with another doctor who kept telling her it was her age lol

Hope you find some relief soon

I'm still in limbo land but feeling quite positive that the ball is rolling in the right direction

Good luck x
