Hi everyone , my names dawn I'm 50 in may !!!!! Can't believe I've just written that !!!!!
I've been I'll 12yrs and was diagnosed with fibro 6yrs ago , when I was given a name for my illness I cried ! At last a name for this thing that's ruining my life !!!!! I really thought now that I've found out what's wrong now they can make me better !!!!! It was a very long time before I could accept this is my life now ! I'm not going back to work ! I'm not going to have a social life ! Not even a normal married life !!
I was so angry with the drs and anyone who got in my way !!!! I was sent kicking and screaming on a 12wk pain management course , I sat and listened to what they had to say and slowly started to understand how this has changed me for ever !!! I now Handel it well!!!! my family still don't believe me my mother in laws favourite thing to say is It's much worse when your old !!!!!!
I get very hurt by those type of comments even though I know I shouldn't waste my energy on people who don't want to understand fibromyalgia , it still hurts!!!!!!!! Sorry if I'm rambling !!!! It's not till you start writing about this do you realise how much there is to say !!
Thank you for reading this and I hope I can help someone else come to terms with fibromyalgia and all that it intails
Take care out there luv dawn x

hi my name is Wilma. I have recently been diagnosed with fm and until I started to research the condition I thought it was something that would go away in time!!!! now I know that it won't but strangely this does not upset me as after a few yrs of unexplained pains I'm just relieved to have an answer. The one thing that has upset me is losing all my friends except 1, they all think I'm coming it and there's nothing wrong with me! Looks like I have to give up work as well as my job involves a lot of standing and sitting and I can't do any of those for long. really pleased to have found this site and to know that I'm not on my own x

Hi,
My name is Martina and I was diagnosed about six months ago. I've just had my first big flare up and was off sick from work for 3 weeks as a result. I have done some research and am begining to understand why I'm feeling the way I am. I'm finding it really difficult to adjust my lifestyle to help manage my symptoms. I have reduced stress at work, reduced my hours of work and have a fairly understanding workplace.
I have four children and the worst bit of my FM is not being able to do the things I want with them. They are finding it difficult too and often say thet I am always tired.
I am also at the stage that work is difficult but managable and feel that financially I am having to work.
I'm currently on Amytriptaline 40mg at night and Pregabalin 50mg morning and night. I have also just started Manganise advised by Holland and Barrett.
Like many of you I am begining to feel like some people think I am making my illness up and exagerating my symptoms. My ex recently told my children that I'm making it up and this has really upset me. Thankfully I have a very supportive and patient husband.

I am really looking forward to talking to people who understand what its like to have FM.

hi everyone, i'm Andy from lincolnshire, i'm 37 and i'm being treated for FM but it hasn't been fully diagnosed by anyone, and quite frankly i'm getting a bit pee's off waiting for a diagnosis!!
gonna list my symptoms here and see what you all think, am i or arent i?

dizzy spells
random numbness
constipation/the trots
feel bloated
look bloated
ankles ache
knees ache constantly
hips ache
lower back ache
shoulder ache
elbow ache
wrist ache
neck ache
frequent headaches
erratic sleep pattern and disturbed sleep
generally feeling energyless
loss of appetite
drinking lots and never having my thirst quenched
peeing lots
irritable
depressed

after nearly 10 months of this my normal doc was on holiday and i saw a different doc who recognised the signs and gave me a huge fact sheet on the condition and this website. i know from the fact sheet, that nearly all of my symptons are factors in the condition, but i need to know who or how i go about getting it diagnosed?

  Martina and Andy :welcome: to the forum :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing:

There is a lot of info and advice on here that you may find helpful and we try to support each other thru the mayhem that FM brings us

Martina, it is difficult learning to live with FM (I wish I could make that sound nicer for you) and unfortunately it doesn't happen overnight :( :( :( The best way is to just take things day~by~day, see how you are and what you can do. Hopefully, as you do this, the more you learn about how your FM affects you, what warning signs/triggers you may have that cause a flare and find that altho you have FM, with what you have learnt about yourself, you are still able to manage a happy life, even tho it may not be quite what you had originally wanted/planned/hoped for. It does take time tho, so try not to be too hard on yourself about things.

Where kids are concerned, it's always difficult as there are so many things that we want to do with them, and that they would like us to do with them   This doesn't mean that you can't enjoy times with them, you just need to find suitable things that you can do together. My son was 3 1/2 when I started with things, and he is a teenager now, so all he has really known is how I am now. As I struggled to do the physical, active stuff with him, his dad and granddads stepped in to help with that, whereas I did more of the academic/psychological things with him like reading, writing, spellings etc, as well as playing something like a board game with him. As much as he is a PITA at the moment, under all the "Kevin"ness he is a fairly decent kid. So try not to worry and definitely don't beat your self up about things. You will find the kind of things that are suitable for you you to do with them, and they will probably enjoy new things :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing:

Andy, to get a definite dx, you need either your GP to clarify and confirm things, or you can ask your GP to refer you to a suitable specialist (usually Rheumatologist) to get a definitive answer.

Anything you want to know about, all you need to do is ask and we'll try to help you with it :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing:
