Hi everyone i am 56 years old and just been diagnosed but my doc who is fantastic and very young did not use pressure points , just bloods and quistions. she as fibro herself and is so lovely . how can she be so sure its fibro xx
The use of pressure points seems to vary from one doctor to another, some will check every single one to see how the patient reacts, where as others feel that they have enough info from test results and the patient's history to make a diagnosis, which is maybe the case with your doc. If you're not sure about it, or want a 2nd opinion, you could ask to be referred to a rheumatologist and see what they think. The drawback to doing that tho is how long it could take for an appt to come thru
There is a lot of info and advice on here that you may find useful, so have a look round and see what there is. Anything you're wanting to know about, just ask and we'll try to help you with it
If your dog doesn't like someone, then you probably shouldn't either
Hi Rosehip and to the forum as Fluppy has said pressure points are not always used and maybe because your GP is a sufferer she is confident to diagnose without

I too was diagnosed only last week and with out the pressure points, my GP was very young too, Im relieved to hear someone else is in the same boat as me as I felt I was not diagnosed properly and was so worried about it.
I cant give you much help as Im new to all this but the support I've had so far is brill
I was diagnosed a few weeks ago without the doc doing the pressure point test! She went on my past history, how I am feeling now and the fact my bloods all came back normal! I went for a meds review today and had to see another doc and she was in agreement with her colleague that I have fibro and again didn't do the test. In a way, I am pleased, because I know that the areas I can reach are agonising to touch so glad she didn't have a poke x Having read somewhere that fibro can't be diagnosed without the test though, does make me wonder if they are right in their diagnosis!
hi rosehip ,i never had the pressure thingy either ,it took numerous visists to rheumy and neuro doctors to confirm my fibro .they all felt that it could have been ms ,motorneurone,or brain tumour omg i had every thing done to me that u could imagine .lol,i felt so confused over my symptoms! my symptums were considered so severe the y felt they had to rule out all the other things first ,glad you have ,likeme ,a graet doc .it does help to have someone that you can get advice and help from .keep your chin up (if you can ) lol tomorrow is another day .
Hi people, no I didn't have the pressure point test either. I did see a rheumatologist and he went on my history, the pain all over, the fatigue and the fibro-fog. I had lots of blood test too but they all came back negative. I read on Fibromyalgia UK that they are not relying on the pressure test for diagnosis very much now, they use a broader criteria they I can't explain but works on a points system. If you want to read it yourself, here's the web address, don't forget the www. ukfibromyalgia.com/what-is-fm.html. You may feel reassured by reading it and realise you have nothing to be so scared of Rosehip.
My Rheumatologist took my word for it and didn't feel the need to put me through any more pain. You are lucky to have a diagnosis from your GP, I told mine 6 months ago I thought I had it but he insisted I didn't and sent me from pillar to post for tests that were all negative. However, I do think your GP should refer you to a Rheumatologist as they are more specialised and can organise physio and cognitive therapy to help you deal with your condition more. Good luck :o)
Hi I am newly diagnosed and like the others on this thread i didnt have the pressure test either. my gp was confident beofre the blood tests that i had fibro. i wasnt sure he was thorough enough but it would seem that he had enough information to go on.
Hi just a quick one, can you not print out the pressure points list and test them yourself get a partner / friends help, at the same time if this is positive print a list of effect of Fibro and get friends / partners to read it, as you know we do-not look as ill as we feel.
