Hello!

Postby csangel » Tue Sep 11, 2012 2:46 pm

Hi,
just wanted to introduce myself and say hi as it seems I'm going to be hanging around here for a while - seems to be a lot of information on here I'm eager to learn from.

I'm 23, have had knee and hip trouble since I was about 10, but in the last year my pain seems to have spread to my back, shoulders, hands, etc., and am now really struggling to cope. Gave into it all a couple of months ago and went to the GP. Long story short, she things it's probably fibromyalgia but says it's difficult to diagnose so we will just see how things go and try and treat the symptoms I have. On painkillers for now, which seem to take the edge off, but am keen not to be dependant on drugs, so will be hanging around to see how everyone else copes to try and work this whole thing out for myself!

:-)

Hello, I'm a newbie round here too - diagnosed this year. I hope they can give you an idea of what's going on soon. If it's FM this is the place to share your story. I'm also quite resistant to the idea of taking drugs but am finding the alternative route quite expensive! There is lots advice about all of this here. Good luck with the referral. :-)

  and :welcome: to the forum :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing:

There is a lot of info and advice on here, as well as suggestions that you may find helpful, so have a look and a read around.

FM can be tricky to dx as it can often appear as other conditions, which need ruling out before the definitive dx is made. It sounds like you could have an understanding GP, which makes a huge difference when trying to manage a condition like FM. Hopefully as you start to try different things for your symptoms you'll find the magic mix that makes the difference to you.

There are some members who are trying to manage their FM without meds, using supplements, alternative treatments etc, having a look at some of their posts may be of help in deciding what might be a suitable way for you to manage yours.

Anything you want to know about, just ask and we'll try to help you with it

Thank you for making me welcome! I still haven't decided whether it's that I want to manage things differently, or just if it's that I resent the idea of being in pain and needing drugs long term! :-?

I've had blood tests, to rule out arthritis, but I think the gp is reluctant to try and diagnose? She said there were criteria and pressure points but she could never remember where they were... is there a specialist I should push to try and see to get a definite diagnosis? Having gone for years not knowing why I was in pain, it means a lot if I could definately tell people what's wrong with me finally!

Think it's going to take a little while to get my head around all this... ;-)
