The thing I am say worried about is my GP's report. I am the sort of person to bury my head in the sand and if he has written something I don't want to see I know I will be upset to go again. I know this sounds silly, it's just my mind I suppose.

I told him I am in too much pain to walk across a room and need someone with me when out. This dates back to 2004 when I was attacked. It's all there on my medical records.

I don't know, I've gone back to being upset now I think, I feel quite low and shaky and today is a really bad day. :( I waited until I felt too bad to go on to claim, I was told about three years ago by a dwp worker to claim but didn't feel that I was needy enough.

I also find it so hard to explain to people, so I don't know what to say to the welfare rights person and don't even know if there is one in my area.

TBH I feel sort of put in my place, I know that's how they want me to feel but I just can't get over the letter telling me all the things I can so easily do.
Sorry, just feeling really low right now.

Ok, tell us the City you are in no other identifying details, and we will have a look online for you to see where your welfare rights advisor is.
I know it's hard and sometimes you can't face dealing with things, don't worry, tomorrow is another day and you may feel better.
One day at a time that's all you have to do.
if you can't face things don't beat yourself up, it is what it is :D

It's in the outskirts of London, the thing is I fall under two CAB offices and the one I can get in contact with always tell me to call the other one as they cannot take anyone where I live and the other office never pick up.

Thank you all for the encouragement, I'm just a bit down today I suppose. I put in great detail all the trouble I have and all the help I need.

Hi, Where I live in Scotland, its a service run by the local Council and has nothing to do with CAB.

I have found this site in London, I have no knowledge of them but it sounds like they might be a place to start.

here is another one

Have a look see what you think, there may be others on the forum who may be able to point you in the right direction of services where you live.
Good Luck

Hi, I would like to advise you to appeal and also I have already been through the appeal system and won,,you have to have a very understanding gp and one you feel you can talk to and explain how and why you are feeling and your symptoms and how they affect you..I wish you very good luck x

You are very welcome :-D
Might be worth going back to your G.P and having a chat with him about it. If you find he is not very supportive as some of the older GP's can be, then see if there is a younger doctor in the practice you can go and see.
In my experience the younger doctors are far far more clued up on Fibro and its associated conditions as they have studied more recently and tend to be more up to date.

Let us know how you get on

Good luck with any appeal , I know its a big decision and a difficult one when you aren't feeling the best . i almost feel thats part of the reason they issue so many no decisions as they understand for some people it will be to much to go through the appeal process.

Contact the advise service as soon as you can and get the process started . With thier help and our suppport I'm sure you will be able to manage .

Hugs

Ask CAB to help you they have specialist advisers who deal with DLA and will help with appeal and even come to Tribunal with you to assist you.

When I first applied for DLA I was refused it, they had sent a doctor out to assese me and he had written that he was unable to assese my gait as I had struggled to walk across room and they in a later question written that I could walk at least 50 meters un aided (I use a gutter zimmer frame indoors and a wheel chair outside) and the best question of all was the MALE patients only question Is he able to use a male urinal at night and the doctor had written yes! If I'm a man not a woman can someone please explain what the two lumps on my chest are and what happened to my dangly bit's and if I am a woman as I'm 100% sure I am, where did my doctor get his medical certificate from or did his mummy forget to sit him down and explain the diffrences between little girls and little boys????????

At my appeal I won and now get Higher rate mobility and lower rate care and CAB did all the form filling in and all the phone calls, all I had to do was turn up at the tribunal my mum and the lady from CAB were allowed to come in with me and the pannel were really kind and friendly and even they were laughing at the mad things the doctor had written.

So please don't give up it's worth fighting for and assuming the same rules apply now as back then they back date any money owed and with the money owed to me I was able to buy an electric bed so I can sleep upright and change position frequantly.

You will need to ask for a copy of your GP's report to see exactly what has been put to see why they came to there decision.

A few things...

It may not have been your GP that filled out the forms so they went on all information on the computer and if your GP did not write down specific notes in relation to your mobility and care needs this can be the fault.

Your GP will need to have all the information from you about all your mobility and care needs to put the answers down, it maybe that he didnt have all the full information.

If you disagree on what you read or he has put in *no record* to any of the answers then you need to see about making an appointment to alter this as you will not get anywhere unless he changes things as they have gone on his word.

Thanks again for all your advice!! I think I was in shock at the letter telling me all the things I don't have trouble doing when I had gone to great lengths saying what trouble I did have with it all.

I will call tomorrow or get my mother to call for me as I get really confused over the phone and can never remember the conversation afterwards.

I have trouble talking about benefits to my doctor as I always go in with a list of problems when I do go and my GP office say you should only have one problem when you go into your appointment, so I feel this is wasting his time as it's kind of on me, IYKWIM. I also feel really embarrassed talking about it.

Hi everyone.

Well I couldn't get through to welfare rights around here and the CAB were still a no go.

My mother has called the DWP to ask for a reconsideration and appeal, the man said on the phone as they are two different things they can only do one. She said she would take the appeal and the form is being sent out but the man said that on the return of the form my application will be looked at again by another member of their team. Does that sound right, that they will wait to have another look.

She has asked for a copy of the GP report too and laid out to him all the contradictions about me setting fire to the kitchen and can't hold a cup without dropping it, let alone a pan and why I need someone with me at all times. She said the form is like reading about someone else and he said to write all this down in the form and the new meds and consultant too.

Does that seem right though, not looking until they receive the appeal form? Thanks again for all the help.

hi evie15

really hope u get sorted and all this stress goes away for u.

i had a similar problem with my ESA, even though my hubby has to get me dressed and undressed, help turn in bed, get in and out the bath, car etc. they said i was still able to work. er dont think so.

well anyway. CAB helped me to appeal and my dr was great as well, he is very supportive and without him, i probably would be in hospital through all the stress etc cos like u i get panic attacks and have asthma and chronic back pain etc.

anyway CAB asked some questions which i answered truthfully, got the forms together which they wrote for me and gave me some info to give to my dr to make sure he wrote the correct things down to help with the appeal and i won and i couldnt have been more grateful to CAB for it as well as the support from my dr.

They even phoned every few weeks to make sure i was ok and if i had any issues about the appeal etc they would help.

would really try and get the help from CAB or a benefit adviser, takes so much pressure of u.

anyway take care and really hope u get sorted. x

Just thought I would update this one.

Thank you all for your help, I couldn't get an advisor but went ahead and asked for an appeal, they offered LRC alone and I then appealed that, on a reconsider they have awarded LRC and HRM. I have to decide now if I would like to appeal this as I do feel like my care needs are higher, however I wanted to thank you all for your great advice.

You are all stars.
