Help with DLA anyone?

Postby jjohnson » Sat Aug 09, 2014 4:05 pm

I have just been turned down for DLA on my appeal and am now having to apply for 'Leave to appeal to the Commissioner'

Can anyone help with this please as this has now gone on since Jan 2014.

That appears to be the norm these days and its wrong. I am so sorry this has happened to you. Have you got any welfare advice people you could contact? You could try fifgtback on Facebook, they are very good.

Oh dear.. As I have said get as much information as u can about fibro on line. You need to put that information with all applications you make. There are people out there who when checking your information know nothing about fibro. You need to be explicit on your disability. I'm in the process of requesting middle rate mobility because my condition is getting worse. I will supply DLA with my symptoms and will send lots of on line information for them to see. In the begining of my illness 12 years ago. It took me 6 months to get my DLA. It also helps when you have a GP on your side. Remember learn all you can on line. Print it off and use it in all your applications. Good luck x

Sorry to hear about the DLA situation.

I had my initial DLA application turned down a few years ago, with many medical specialists telling me that due to my young age (at that time) and the fact I was working from home (at the time) could work against me in getting DLA. It took a year of extra extensive research and gathering of evidence- witness statements from friends and family, doctor reports, professional assessments etc to build enough of a case to have the decision overturned. I was almost broken by the time I got to appeal stage, but the pain and effort paid off. I only qualified for lower rate care and mobility at that time, but it was a huge victory. I know a year is a long time to get the decision overturned and extremely frustrating - especially if you get more unwell during that time, but there is still hope with the right help and research.

One of the biggest resources I used, that was an incredible help - Benefits and Work: Depending on your finances, it might be worth considering paying for full access to the site's library of guides. I'm not at all affiliated with this site but I do believe they are an excellent support - it gave me an immense amount of clarity and guidance during that time. There are many documents included that take you through every stage of applying for help.

I really hope it helps you as much as it did me. Wishing you the best of luck!
