Making a new PIP claim - any advise?

Postby FrenchJan » Fri Aug 14, 2015 9:07 am

I have not worked for 2 1/2 years and have not claimed anything. I have both a FM and CFS diagnosis. I struggle with extensive pain, fatigue and memory issues in a daily basis. I feel really scared to start the claim process so any advice from those of you that have gone through this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there

Depending on where you live it seems to be different, I am in northern Ireland and it took around 2 months
I didn't have an examination, they wrote to my doctor and she went through the form with me.
I have fibro and mental health issues (basically just depression with suicidal tendencies)

I was awarded medium rate care and standard mobility

You need to tell them as much as possible about how it affects your dad to day life I.e. Can't open tins to cook, can't go out for groceries, can't climb stairs, need help into the bath, someone needs to wash your hair for you.

Whatever you can't do tell them, no matter how trivial it may sound

Wishing you all the best with it
Hugs and prayers x x x

I have had my forms for a week and have been putting off filling them in. There is so much I can say but not sure how to word it.

The thought of them contacting my doctor worries me, because she never listens to me, so god only knows what she will tell them.
I agree put everything, no matter how small it seems. I have degenerative and bulging discs in my spine so that is going on there. Also after a conversation with a phycotheripist the other day she told me I have agoraphobia so that is going on too.

Also copy send off as many letters you have from specialists as you can. The more info you can give them the better.

Get someone else to help you. Write it on a piece of paper first or even on a word doc. When it asks for extra information, try and fill in as many as you can and at the end they give you a big space to write, I wrote about a typical day for me. I am still on the old system of DLA but i get high rate mobility and law rate care.
